purchased over seven thousand acres of state land in the South Platte
vallev for $2.50 per acre. Mr. Arnett, together with Messrs. W. H. Schenck
and George Gunn, have chartered and expect to construct a
lerge ditch on the north side of the Platte river, and east of Sterling,
that will cover a large portion of the above-named land, together
with many thousand acres of other fine land."

October 1885 Sterling "W. H. Schenck and family have taken apartments
in Mrs. Barger's home. "

William claimed a quarter in section 17, 8N 52W in 1886,
and another in sections 17 and 18 in 1890.
February 1888 "W. H. Schenck is hauling brick for a fine new residence in Sterling. "
In May 1889 Ida Schenck was enrolled in the Logan County High School.
December 1889 Fort Morgan "Louis Gaume
has sold his large ranch in Weldon Valley to
W. H. Schenck, of Sterling, who will take
possession some time in the spring."
In March 1890 he borrowed $504 from Henry
C. Palmer, with M.B. Palmer as trustee,
using that land as collateral. He was in default in May 1890, and the land was to be auctioned in July 1890.
August 1890 "W. H. Schenck and family left
for Ft. Morgan last Saturday, where they will
reside in the future. Mr. S. has lived in
Sterling for the past eight or nine years,
and has always battled for the upbuilding
of Logan county. His many friends wish him
prosperity.

grain for Senator McCreery and other
parties this week."

Kathleen Mell 93 of Kennewick passed away December 13,
2001 at Kennewick General Hospital. She was born February 22,
1908 in Boise, Idaho to Homer and Lena Jessee.
Lovingly known as "Een" by friends and family,
Kathleen spent most of her life caring for others.
She lived in Kennewick for 43 years.
She was a member of Highway Tabernacle Church in Kennewick.
She loved to crochet and go fishing. She is greatly missed by
friends and family.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband Garnett
and by two daughters, Velma Mell and Bonnie Bell.
She is survived by granddaughter Rebecca (Bell) Cahoon,
grandson David Bell, and great-granddaughter Katie Bell,
all of Kennewick, Washington, and by her brother Bob Jessee
and his wife Shirley of Eugene, Oregon, and her sister
Virginia Card of Boise, Idaho. Memorial services will be
held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2001,
at Highway Tabernacle Church, Kennewick."
