March 1900 "Mrs. Will Ramsay of Colorado Springs arrived in Greeley
Wednesday, to visit with her mother, Mrs. C. C Higby. Mr. Ramsay sailed for
England last week on business for W. S. Stratton, the well known
millionaire."
March 1900 Greeley "Mrs. Will Ramsay, who has been visting her mother, Mrs. Higby,
returned to Colorado Springs last week."

May 30, 1900 Victor, Colorado " Announcement was made yesterday that J. H. Emerson had tendered
his resignation as manager and superintendent of the Independence mine. Mr. Emerson has been connected
with this property ever since Mr. Stratton made his great strike and all the vast ore measures
have been emptied under his supervision. He will take charge of the properties recently and
previously acquired by Mr. Stratton throughout the district. The new manager of the Independence
will be L. A. Ricard, now state geologist, who will hold the title of consulting engineer,
while John Stark, a mine operator of established ability, will be made superintendent."

March 1901 "W. S. Stratton. Colorado's mining king, was
in Cheyenne this afternoon, accompanied by William A. Ramsey,
James Emerson and M. W. Warner, to attend a stockholder meeting of the
Cripple Creek Mining company. which is incorporated under the laws
of Wyoming."
" Only twice after he came West did Mr. Stratton leave Colorado for any length of time.
In 1894, he made a trip to California for his health, but remained only a short time.
Five years later, he went to Europe for a six months’ trip. The trip was made both for recreation
and in connection with his deals regarding disposition of the Independence mine.
He was accompanied by Dr. D. H. Rice, his physician and a close personal friend; W. A. Ramsay,
his secretary; and Robert Swarz, a close friend. During his visit in Europe, Mr. Stratton was
very ill and from that time on, friends said he was prepared in his affairs for death.
He spent much time while abroad in Brighton, on the south coast of England under care of specialists,
in Aix-les-Baines and Carlsbad. He was ill for about four months of the time he was in Europe.
After his return to this country, his entire time was spent in Colorado Springs,
the Cripple Creek district and Denver, where his financial interests were.
His entire time was devoted to his properties and their development until his death.
Mrs. Jennie S. Cobb, then of San Jose, Calif., was the only sister to survive Mr. Stratton.
She was with him when he died at his home, 115 N. Weber st., Colorado Springs,
where he had lived for many years. He died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1902, at the age of 54."
"The will left the following bequests: Carl 8. Chamberlain, nephew,
$50,000 and his house and furnishings; Earl W. Hamlin, nephew, $50,000; Harry B. Hamlin, nephew, $50,000;
Mrs. Jennie Stratton Cobb, sister, $50,000; Mrs. Mary Cobb Smith, niece, $50,000;
Lillian Cobb, niece, $50,000: & Elma Pearl Chamberlain, niece, $50,000;
I. Harry Stratton, son, $50,000 “provided that if he contests the will, directly or indirectly,
he shall get nothing”; Byron C. Logan, friend, $10,000; State Institute for the Mute and Blind, $25,000,
“the interest on which shall be given annually to the pupils as reward for excellence in scholarship
or demeanor or both.” The remainder of the estate was placed in a fund for establishment of the
Myron Stratton home for the poor."
