December 28, 1928 "Mrs. Harriet May Smith, aged 74, a resident of north Webster county since the early ..., passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stella Baum of Callaway, Sunday, following a second stroke of paralysis. For about 48 years Mrs. Smith has been a resident of Blue Hill. She was a faithful member of the Christian church and had a large circle of friends, whose companionship she greatly enjoyed. She is survived by two sons, Clyde and Charles, Red Cloud business men, and four daughters, Mrs. Irene Merritt and Mrs. Myrtle McLeod of Blue Hill, Mrs. Marguerite Mentgen of Sterling, Colo., and Mrs. Stella Baum of Calloway. One daughter, Mildred Horn, passed away several years ago. Fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren and one brother Ira El Parks of Tomahawk, Wis. also survive her. Funeral services were held at Blue Hill Wednesday and interment was made in the Blue Hill cemetery."

" William Robert Smith was born November 1850 at Argyle, Wis. When 19 years of age Mr Smith was there married to Miss Harriet May Parker and to this union seven children were born, six of whom are still living. When 21 years of age, they moved to Blue Hill, Nebr., in which state he has since resided. Late in life Mr. Smith was married to Miss Harriet Sowl of Scotland, and to this union 4 children were born, all of whom survive. The deceased leaves one sister, Mary A. Sisson living at St. Edwards, Nebr., ten children and ten grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Merritt of Hastings, Nebr., Mrs. A. Mentgen of Sterling, Colo., Mrs. A. McClede of Boise, Idaho., Mrs. A. Baum of Fairfield, Nebr., and Charles and Clyde, Blue Hill, Nebr, children of his first wife and Florence, Donald, Helen, and Kenneth of Harvard, Nebr., children of the second wife, all of whom have been preseht at the last said offices of the dead, with the exception of Mrs. McClede of Boise, Idaho.
In his early life in Nebraska, Mr. Smith engaged tn farming. For a short time afterward he kept store, but for the last several years has been a marble and tombstone dealer. In his business relations, Mr. Smith was known as a man of strict integrity, whose word was as good as his bond. As a neighbor and friend, he was kind and helpful, and his habits were clean. His wife and children sorely mourn his loss, and he will be missed by a wide cirle of acquaintances.
Funeral services were held from the house at 2 Friday, conducted by Rev. Warren of the Congregational church, assisted by Rev. Davis of the Christian church. A quartet chosen from the two churches furnished the music."

July 8, 1926 Edina, Missouri " Miss Marguerite Mentgen of Sterling, Colo., a native of Edina and the only child of Frank A. Mentgen, of the firm of Mentgen Bros., proprietors of the Racket Store here formerly, was married to Herbert Welsh at Sterling, Tuesday of last week. The couple will live for the present in Sterling, to where the Mentgen families went from here some years ago, and where the Mentgen Bros. are conducting a drygoods store."
