John Roth wrote in 1910 " M. C. King, his son-in-law, Mr. Stevens, and son Lon King,
a dentist here, were the first to locate."
" Sterling's first business house was on the lot now occupied by J. W. Walter's
meat market. It was a hardware store owned and conducted by M. C. King and R. E. Smith, and
tnelr first business transaction was the sale of a jack knife to J. J. Cheairs"
Minos was already in the Sterling area in 1881 when the Goodwin brothers arrived. " The country all laid open then and
the first wire fence they saw was the colony fence enclosing the lands of J. M. and M. C. King,
Allen Sanders, Ed and Marion Smith, R. C. Perkins, Mrs. M. E. Ayres, Hugh and Ed Davis and
Uncle D. B. Davis, 2 1/4 miles below Sterling. "
March 1885 Denver " M. C. King, E. L. Minter, J. C. Packard, B. M. Taylor,
J. E. Wallace. Harry Wallace, M. Litch, S. D. Peer, M. H. Smith, A. J. Weir,
D. B. Davis, W. H. Harris, James Chronnis, T. L. Watson, A. T. Spoor and H. Schneider,
all residents of Sterling, stopped at the Brunswick last night. They all favor the
establishment of the new county of Iliff and were in attendance at the committee
meeting last evening."
August 1888 "Mrs. Major Minter and Ella King have gone to Glenwood Springs
for a visit."

June 1889 " Major E. L. Minter and wife left one day last week
for California, for rest and recreation. M. C. King's family will accompany them,
Mr. King being already there."
June 1889 "M. C. King and family left on Tuesday for California, where they intend in the future to reside."
October 1898 Sterling "Wetherbee & Strong of Greeley unloaded 4,300 lambs at the Gulf
yards in this city last night. They will have in another shipment of 3,700 head in a day
or two and the entire 8,000 head will be wintered at M. C. King's ranch north of town,
which, as previously mentioned in these columns, is an ideal place for winter feeding.
This is only a forerunner of what will follow. Sheepmen from Snyder, Hardin, Weldon,
and even from Rock Springs, Wyo., have arranged to feed thousands of head of sheep in
this county this winter. The total will run up to probably a hundred thousand head
and may exceed that number. "

October 1912 " Mrs. M. C. King of Paonla, Colorado, arrived here today noon for nn
extended visit with her son, W. E. King nnd family, and her many friends.
M. C. King has been in the fruit business in Paonia since he and his wife left here some
five years ago, and has not only been exceedingly prosperous, but both he and his wife
have been in the best of health. They lived in Logan county for 30 years,
having been members of the original colony that settled near Sterling in 1873. It is
indeed a pleasure for Mrs. King's many friends to have the opportunity of welcoming her
back to Sterling."

Duncan, Oklahoma, May 31, 1928 " Weeden Wells, night clerk at the New Duncan
hotel for the past two years, passed away last Friday afternoon at 2 at the
home of his brother Wells 10 miles northwest of this city.
He had been ill for the past six... About a month ago his condition became
serious and he was taken to the home of his brother.
A short service was held at the home at 1:20 Saturday afternoon and
services were held at 2:30 at the Duncan cemetery.
Arrangements were in charge of the Grooms and Rangeley Fumetal Home
and Rev. Haskins officiated at ihe services.
Pall bearers at the funeral were Will Coffelt. Brown Crawford. McFatridge Bluett.
and Walter Harkey/ The deceased is survived by his wife and two children:
one son Harold and one daughter, Mrs. McKee, both of whom live in Calif.
He is also mourned by his mother, Mrs. Wells, one sister and two brothers.
He was man past 58 years of age."

"Harold Benjamin Wells, 659 Fourth street, Fillmore,
died yesterday at his home after a short illness. He would have
celebrated his 60th birthday next Wednesday.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Gladys A. Wells, Fillmore;
a sister, Mrs Edith McKee, Corona del Mar; and two nieces.
A seven-year resident of Fillmore, Mr.
Wells was a laboratory manager for a Fillmore pharmaceutical firm.
He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of Fillmore lodge
No. 379,
