publishing house of Denver, was a recent visitor at this office,
Mr. Heaton having come to Stering to look over a recent purchase of his of Logan county land. "
September 16, 1908 Sterling Republican-Advocate "This paper has been
purchased by Mr. Edward N. Heaton, of Liberty, Mo., and the entire control
and management will pass into his hands on the first of October.
He has had years of experience in the newspaper business and is an all
around printer and newspaper man. He will move his family here in a few days,
and we bespeak for him a successful career in this city."

August 1909 Sterling " Joseph Downey, of Greeley, was in Sterling last week,
having been up in the vicinity of Stonum (perhaps Stoneham)
to look after his land interests. Mr. Downey located on a homestead near Stonum
twenty-two years ago, but has been farming near Greeley the past fifteen years. He
is an old friend of the family of E. N. Heaton, both being originally from Mercer county,
Illinois, from which place Mr. Downey has recently returned from a visit."
September 1909 " Mrs. Harriet Webster left Tuesday for St. Louis to resume her work
as Instructor in Kreager's School of Music, after having spent the summer vacation with
her sister, Mrs. E. N. Heaton."
February 1910 " The first edition of the Sterling Independent appeared on the streets
last Friday morning. The paper is owned by Heaton & Deaton, and edited by Mr. E. N. Heaton,
who has been engaged here In the newspaper business previously. Mr. Deaton recently
purchased the Sterling Art Printsry and has since been conducting it. The paper is
small, but will probably improve with succeeding issues."

May 18, 1910 " Mrs. E. N. Heaton received a message last week stating that her father
was dangerously ill and not expected to live at his home in Keesburg, I11., and
immediately left for that place. "
June 8, 1910 "Mrs. E. N. Heaton returned from Keesburg, I11., Thursday, where she was
called some time ago by the illness and death of her father. "
October 1910 " Miss Alice Wing, who has been making an extended visit
in Denver, stopped over here the latter part of the week for a visit
with her cousin, Mrs. E. N. Heaton, she being on her return to her home In Chicago. "
July 1911 " E. N. Heaton returned to Brush this morning, after visiting over Sunday
with his family."
October 1911 " Ed. N. Heaton, who has been connected with Sterling newspapers
for several years, has purchased the Iliff Independent and takes posession next week.
Mr. Heaton is a good newspaper-man and a square fellow, and the Republican-Advocate wishes
him all kinds of success in his new field."
December 1911 " Ed N. Heaton of the Iliff Independent was n Sterling business visitor today."

January 1916 Denver
June 1916 Sterling " Cris Knudsen and Ned Heaton,
who have been visiting their parents from Longmont,
returned home today."
September 1916 "A farm near the Mentgen place belonging to E. N. Heaton was also struck by the cyclonic wind. Several wheat and hay stacks were literally, torn to pieces. The shocks of grain were strewn for many acres around the spot where the stacks stood. Preceding the storm a terrific electrical storm played about Sterling for some time. The lightning flashed and the thunder rolled, giving the alarm of the approaching storm. Shortly before 8 o’clock the wind began to sweep across the city, and screens were ripped off, vines were blown down and other minor damage done. More or less damage was done to telegraph and telephone lines. Follow’ing the wind the rain fell In torrents and lasted for about an hour."
February 1918 Sterling "A dairy herd of twenty high grade milch cows has been added to
the business of E. N. Heaton at the Vallevue Dairy on his stock farm.
Mr. Heaton has purchased the dairy herd of C. A. Jackson. He has also purchased
the business established by Mr. Jackson and will deliver milk in Sterling.
E. Van Swayge, a practical dairyman of New York state, is now in charge
of the Vallevue Dairy. The dairy herd of Mr. Heaton is one of the finest in the state.
He is a believer in the best of stock, and is a breeder of pure bred and high grade
Poland China hogs and Shropshire sheep."
February 1918 Sterling "A team belonging to E. N. Heaton ran away Wednesday, tearing loose from a milk wagon. It ran down Main street and turned north toward the Heaton ranch. Little damage was done to the wagon and the team was not hurt."

October 1922 "Everett Eames, who resides on the E. N. Heaton place north
of Sterling, was informed in a letter received Saturday from his mother that
a brother had not been seen since October 15, when he left for a deer hunt in the
mountains of Huerfano county, west of Walsenburg. Believing that he had met with an
accident, parties of men formed search parties and combed the hills without success."
January 1923 "The Community club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Heaton,
New Year's night. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Booker Gil1fillan,
P. A. Crorkin, and Miss lren»» Haller. Dainty refreshments were served."

Ocober 18, 1928 "Mr. Earl Johnson, who went to Flint, Michigan, last week to drive home
a new Chevrolet coupe for Mr. Russel Tappy, arrived home Sunday. He stopped in Sterling
and brought his niece, Miss Florence Lockheart, home with him. Florence, who was operated
on about two weeks ago, is feeling fine."

They're still in Sterling in 1950, Edward the assistant postmaster.
November 1964 Estes Park " Mrs. Ned Heaton is in Longmont hospital, having been taken there by ambulance last Friday morning. She suffered a fall out of her bed, and is recovering, but have had no late news of her condition. "

She died in a Boulder hospital two months after having had major surgery; she seemed to be recovering when death came. Mr. Heaton is still living in Pinewood. "
