Edward (Shorty) Carl Holm II of Greeley, CO died May 14, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Holm was born on January 7, 1921 to Edward Carl and Marian C. (Peiper) Holm in Haxtun, CO.

Edward married LaVonne Worley in Kansas with whom he had 8 children. Although they later divorced, he and LaVonne maintained a close relationship. Later, he married Barbara Tormey with whom he had 9 children. They were married until her death in 1996.

Mr. Holm lived all of his life in Colorado, mostly in the Weld County area except during the time he farmed in Strasberg with Stubby Schmidt after his retirement. At the time of his death, Shorty lived in Greeley with his granddaughter Raneta Boothe who with the help of her family, lovingly cared for him as his health declined over the last five years.

Shorty worked as a diesel mechanic at various businesses in the Weld County area including John Deere of Ault, Saunders Equipment Company of Evans, and Consumers Oil Company of Greeley. He was so well known for his mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose an engine problem by ear that he was solicited by an Airline Carrier in New York to come and work as an airplane mechanic. He declined the offer in order to stay near his family.

During WWII and the Korean Conflict, Edward served in the Army. He was a long time member of the V.F.W. in Ault and the Pierce Moose Lodge.

Mr. Holm enjoyed spending time in the mountains with his family camping and fishing. Although in the later years, he was better known for horsing around with his grandchildren than catching fish. Shorty was well known among his family and friends for his generosity.
