James Hambley

James proved up a quarter in 21, 8N 48W in 1891.

James Hambley was born March 15th 1826 at Geneva, New York and was married to Miss Sarah Zeigler from which marriage six children were born, Margaret, Catherine, William, Thomas, John and Sim.

After the death of his first wife he was again married to Miss Elmira Van Tassel, to which marriage one son, Henry, was born.

Mr. Hambley spent most of his early life in coal mining and after his second marriage he moved to Nebraska, then to Colorado in 1886, being one of the first settlers.

In 1894 he moved to Spearfish, South Dakota

(In 1900 Spearfish James and Almira - born 1851 in New York married twenty years - Henry B born Sep 1881 New York.  In 1910 Crook County Wyoming James is 85, "Elmyra" 56, and Henry B. 28)  from thence to Sundance, Wyoming, and finally back to Colorado where he died August 31, 1915.

The funeral was held at the home north east of Paoli and the interment took place at the Haxtun cemetery. Rev. A.C. Blinzinger officiated.

In 1860 Monroe County, Michigan, Mathias Van Tapel is 76, Arvilla 50, with Rhoda 16, Mathias 14, Almira 13, Sarah 7, and Josephine 6.  Rhoda and Mathias were born in New York, the youngest three in Michigan.

Matthias VAN TASSEL. Born on 16 Feb 1791 in Manlius, Onondaga County, New York. Matthias died on 6 Jan 1868, he was 76. Matthias first married Phebe EVORY. Born in 1794 in Durham, Greene County, New York. Phebe died in 1827, she was 33.

They had the following children:
i.Erastus B.. Born in 1818 in Greene Co., NY.

ii.Obediah. Born abt 1820 in Greene Co., NY.

iii.John Evory. Born on 19 Jun 1824 in Greene Co., NY.

iv.Mary Ann Belinda. Born on 10 Dec 1826 in Catskill, Greene Co, NY.


In 1830 when Matthias was 38, he second married Arvilla VAN TASSEL, daughter of Jacob VAN TASSEL & Rebecca WRIGHT. Born on 5 Mar 1813 in New York City, New York County, New York. Arvilla died in Battle Creek, Michigan on 22 Aug 1897, she was 84.

They had the following children:
i.Andrew Milton. Born on 6 Oct 1831 in Onondaga Co., NY.

ii.Serepta. Born in 1833 in Onondaga Co., NY. Serepta died in Ashtabula, Ohio.

iii.Samantha. Born in 1835 in onondaga Co., NY.

iv.Phebe. Born in 1837 in Onondaga Co., NY.

v.Sarah. Born in 1840 in Onondaga Co., NY.

vi.Matthias. Born in 1842 in Onondaga Co., NY.

vii.Rosina. Born on 16 Feb 1845 in Onondaga Co., NY or Galesburg MI.

viii.Almira. Born in 1847 in Galesburg, MI.

ix.Josephine. Born in 1849 in Galesburg, MI.

Almira might be a cousin of Hiram Van Tassel born March 15, 1859 to Andrew and Adeline Van tassel, who was a prominent Routt and Moffat County resident.

The obituary might be wrong about his place of birth. maybe James Hambley born 1826 immigrated in 1851, an iron moulder.

or   a William Henry Hamly born 1865 in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England to James and Sarah Hamly.

or a William Hambly married April 16, 1864 in Cornwall - a mining area - to Mary Ball - his father was James Hamby

John Humbey was born in Hampshire May 2, 1858 to James and Sarah Humbey.

William Hambley married Anna M. Tippett April 8, 1876, recorded in Gilpin County.

William L. Hambley declared for naturalization May 21, 1878 in Clear Creek County.

Henry  B. Hambley, born about 1882 in Ohio, is in Abbott, south Washington County, Colorado in 1920, with Josephine 28, Wayne A. 5, Myrte M. 3, and Hazel G. 2.

 

In 1930 Denver Almira is widowed, and Henry - a railroad laborer -  is living with her.

Josephine is in Jefferson County in 1930 and in Denver in 1940 - said she's married.

 

Josie 1891-1975 is also buried in Riverside 23358813

Henry 1881-1947 is buried in Riverside Denver 23358782
