In 1860 Venango County, Pennsylvania, Henry and Mary have Gillett 14, Joel 12, Sarah 8, Warren 6, Elmira 4,   Jefferson 1, John Adams 1, and Dexter Adams six months.

In 1870 Crawford County, Pennsylvania, Henry and Mary have Warner 17, Jefand John both 13, Jas. D. 10, Mora 16, and Losina 4.

Buena Vista County, Iowa Congregational Church —Organized November 4th, 1875, its first officers being Henry Gleason and   S. Warner, Deacons; H. S. Newcomb, Clerk; first pastor, Rev. J.W. Smith. The society has a membership of fourteen with A.M. Beaman as the present pastor. The society built a church in 1881, size 20x36 feet. This building was erected at a cost of $700. Present officers: Henry Gleason, S.S. Warner, Deacons; and H.S. Newcomb, Clerk.

Son of Horace GLEASON and Huldah GILLETT}.

Henry is married to Martha in 1900 Buena Vista County.

In 1910 Buena Vista County, Henry is 90, living with son Joel H. 61 and his wife Sarah .


Isaac proved up a quarter in 15, 8N 48W in 1895.

In 1900 Weld County Isac Gleason, born Oct 1847 in Pennsylvania, married twelve years to Mary Oct 1854 Iowa, have Elma Mar 1891 and Pearl Feb 1892, both girls born in Colorado.

June 19, 1902 Evans Colorado news "Mrs. Isaac Gleason was called to Haxtum last Friday on account of the serious illness of her father."

In 1920 Logan County Isaac is 73, widowed, with Pearl E. 27, no occupation

Pearl Edith Gleason married C.E. Brooks March 29, 1921, recorded in Logan County.

In 1930 Phillips County Isaac is 83, and daughter Pearl Brooks, 38 and her son Devern M. 7, father born in New York, are with them.

February 27, 1932 "Isaac Gleason, 85, died in Haxtun.  He was survived by his daughter ?? Brooks and grandson DeVern."

Pearl E. and Deverne M. are on South Utah Street in Haxtun in 1940, Deverne a janitor at a cafe.

Deverne 1922-1980 is buried in Haxtun 58407738, as is Pearl 1892-1961  58925281

HAXTUN PIONEER CALLED TO REWARD

Another pioneer of the Haxtun community was taken last Thursday when I.G. Gleason, 85, died following an illness of several months.

Mr. Gleason was one of the earlier homesteaders in this section of the state and had been a resident of the community for almost 30 years. He came to Colorado in the year 1888 and had made his home in or near Haxtun since 1903.

Due to old age, he had been in poor health for the past few years of his life and made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Edith Pearl Brooks.

Funeral services were held from the Church of the Brethren in Haxtun last Saturday afternoon at two o’clock. Interment was in the Haxtun cemetery. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. I.C. Snavely, who read the following obituary:

Isaac Gillett Gleason, son of Henry and Mary Gleason, was born at Cooperstown, Pennsylvania, October 26, 1846 and died at Haxtun, Colorado February 4, 1932 at the age of 85 years, three months and eight days.

On June 15, 1888 he was united in marriage with Mary Smith.

To them were born two daughters: Elma Luciena, who died in 1902 and Edith Pearl, with whom he has spent his later years. His wife preceded him in death on March 29, 1916.

Mr. Gleason came to Colorado from Iowa in 1888 and had lived near Haxtun since 1903.

He united with the Baptist church when a young man and held to his Christian faith throughout his lifetime.

He leaves to mourn his passing his only daughter, Mrs. Edith Pearl Brooks; his grandson, DeVern; two brothers, J.D. Gleason of Fleming, Joel Gleason of Sioux Rapids, Iowa and one sister, Mrs. Myra Thurston of Berkley, California, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

 Don Graves wrote "Earnest Gleason from Iowa. He was born Dec. 5 1882 and died on July 25 1907 His parents were Joel H. Gleason and Sarah they also had a daughter Edna May the last information I have is that Joel, Sarah and Edna and infant son were in Lee township by Sioux Rapids Iowa in 1915 and more information on this family would be appreciated."

In 1930 Myra P. Thurston was in Colorado Springs, 75, widowed living with her daughter Mary A. Keen 55 and her husband Ernest B. Keen 50.  She was in Denver in 1910.  Myra Gleason Thurston, born July 24, 1854 in Pennsylvania, died Jan 4, 1947 is Santa Clara County, California, mother's name Spring.

Sister Mary Lucinda Hippel was born in Louisville, Crawford County, Pa., on August 3rd, 1865. She went west with her parents when she was ten years old. She was married to J. W. Hipple in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on March 16th, 1884. 67341662

   Estherville, Emmet County Iowa January 1, 1930 - Sarah Elizabeth Gleason was born April 9, 1850, in Venango county. Pa., and died In Estherville, Iowa, Dec. 22, 1929, aged 79 years, 8 months and 13 days. She was the third in a family of ten. In the spring of 1877 she came with her parents to Sioux Rapids, Iowa. She lived in or near this town until 1920 when she sold her home there and moved to Estherville.  She was married in 1881 to Anton Myers, who preceded her in death ten years  ago. To this union were born two children, Orvie Myers of Terril, and Mary Lee of Lake LUllan, Minn. In early life she united with the Baptist church and remained a faithful member the remainder of her life.  She leaves to mourn her going  her two children, four grandchildren, four brothers, I. G. Gleason, of Haxtum, Colo., J. H. .Gleason of Sioux Rapids, T. J. Gleason of Springboro, Pa., J. D Gleason of Fleming, Colo., and one sister, Mrs. Myra Thurston of Colorado Springs, besides numerous other relatives and a host of friends. She was a quiet, home-keeping woman who will be greatly missed by those who knew her well. So has another full sheaf of life been garnered into the Father's house. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wells of Webb, from the Baptist church at Sioux Rapids and Interment was made In Lone Tree cemetery by the side of her husband. Appropriate music was beautifully rendered by three ladies from Webb. Relatives attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hippie and Mr. and Mrs. John Hippie of Estherville, WUbuf Hippie of Iowa Falls and Mr. and Mrs. Will Gleason of Greenville, Iowa.  # 64818893

The listing of the Haxtun cemetery has a William H. Gleason block 9, lot 34 - bet that the son purchased the lots. 

Pearl Edith Brooks, Isaac's daughter is buried in block 9, lot 34, plot 4, her son De Verne in plot 3.

In 1910 William H. Gleason is a stepson in Butler County, Kansas to Leroy Blake and Iona B. Blake, both 30.

James Gleason and Iona Gleason divorced in Logan County, Colorado in 1914.

In 1920 Fleming James D. Gleason, 60 is living alone, a teamster with his own team.

In 1930 Fleming, J.D., 70, is widowed, doing odd jobs, living alone.

JAMES D. GLEASON OF FLEMING DEAD

James Decker Gleason, 72, died at the home of his niece, Mrs. Edith Pearl Brooks, in Haxtun Monday evening after an illness of only a few days. Pneumonia was the cause of death.

Mr. Gleason had lived at Fleming for a number of years and came to Haxtun last week to attend the funeral of his brother, I.G. Gleason. While here he became ill and his condition grew serious before he could be removed to his home at Fleming.

Mr. Gleason was born in Iowa and later moved with his family to Dakota. He had been a resident of Colorado for the past 20 years. he is survived by his widow and one son, W.H. Gleason of Fostoria, Iowa, who came to Haxtun to attend the funeral.

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Saturday afternoon from the Church of the Brethren and burial will be in the Haxtun cemetery, beside the brother who was buried last week. The funeral sermon will be preached by the Rev. I.C. Snavely and funeral arrangements are in charge of the Radford Funeral Home.
