ANOTHER EARLY SETTLER HERE IS TAKEN BY DEATH
Mrs. E. Bamford Had Homesteaded Here With Husband 43 Years Ago

Mrs. E. Bamford, one of the oldest residents of the Haxtun community, passed away last Thursday at her home in Dailey. Mrs. Bamford was 67 years of age, and had lived in this community 43 years.

Mrs. Bamford had been in failing health for some time, and during the last three months had been bedfast.

Like other early settlers in the west, Mrs. Bamford endured life and its many experiences on the plains. She was a home loving woman whose pride came in rearing her family and caring for the many duties of her home. She was of a likeable nature, and through the many years was held in high esteem by her neighbors and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Bamford came to Colorado in 1893, and homesteaded on a farm four miles west and one mile south of Haxtun. They later moved to another farm, and about three years ago moved to Dailey.

The funeral was held Saturday from the Brethren church, with the Rev. E.F. Weaver conducting the services. The following obituary was read.

Caroline Kolb Bamford, daughter of Frederick and Louise Kolb, was born at Winslow, Illinois, March 18, 1869. When just a child she with her parents moved to Monroe, Wisconsin, were she grew to womanhood.

On June 5, 1885 she was united in marriage with Ehud Bamford at Monroe, Wisconsin. Five children were born to this union, Mrs. Nellie Acott of Sterling; Mrs. Ben L. Lyman of Dailey; W.L. Bamford of Haxtun; Mrs. Arleigh Ames of Fort Collins and Mrs. George Overbeck of Haxtun.

In 1887 Mr. and Mrs. Bamford moved to Kearney, Nebraska and on March 13, 1893 they moved to Logan County, Colorado, where they have made their home.

About forty years ago she united with the Church of the Brethren, and remained faithful until Christ called her home on January 21, 1937 at the age of 67 years, 10 months and three days.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, five children, ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, besides three sisters, Mrs. Louise Rease of Alabama, Wisconsin; Mrs. Ed Johnson of Osage City, Kansas and Mrs. Fred McBride of Rockford, Illinois. Her parents, four sisters and one brother have preceded her in death.

"About 4 o'clock Tuesday morning the barn belonging to Elwood Soper was
discovered to be on fire. It had gained such headway, nothing could be done
to save it or any of the contents, 6 cows, 2 head of young cattle, about 2 ton
of hay, some ground feed, a quantity of mangles, corn fodder and 25 chickens.
The building was insured for $100 but nothing on the contents. So great was
the sympathy of the entire community that before night of that day $78 was
raised by friends to buy a cow and feed. The donations ranged from 50c to
$1.00 or $2.00."
