At the age of 10 years, death took from him the care of a loving father, but being possessed of a brave spirit, he made for himself a record for integrity, stability of character and a determination to succeed in life. After spending a few years in Colorado, he went to Chicago with his brother, where he developed a fine musical talent, was chosen leader in the orchestra of a class of young men in Doctor Withrow's church of Chicago. The last three years were endured with great suffering, but with a patient and uncomplaining spirit. Six weeks ago he came to the home of his uncle, R. A. Idaho Springs September 1910

October 26, 1910 Sterling, Colorado
"T. A. Withrow, for twenty-five years a resident of Logan county, was found dead near Laramie, Wyo., Thursday of last week. His death was evidently due to his own hand. A bullet wound in the scalp and two wounds in the region of the heart had been inflicted at close range, as was evidenced by the powder marks. Mr. Withrow had been in Sterling a short time before his death, having gone from here to Denver, where he consulted an occulist in regard to the condition of his eyes. It is believed that fearing total blindness and advancing years, when he would become dependent upon others, he took his own life. The following brief sketch of his life was written for the Republican Advocate by Rev. Huett of the Methodist church:
Thomas A. Withrow was born at Halifax, Nova Scotia, June 12, 1839, the only one of a large family born out of the United States. Later his parents moved to Odell, Illinois, where he was married to Lucretia M. Chase July 3, 1870. Of this union six children were born; Edward C., Libbie M., William T., Harry T., and Rosetta C. Two children, Libbie M. and Harry T., died in infancy, and Mrs. Withrow died December 1, 1889. Brother Withrow followed the occupation of miner and locator of claims, and had to a large degree the roving, restless spirit of a pioneer. He was a soldier for four years during the rebellion, a grand army man and a member of the Masonic fraternity.
For the past twenty-three years the family has lived in Logan county, near Sterling. He came to his death near Laramie, Wyoming, October 20th. He was a member of the Sterling M. E. church, having been received into full connection June 14, 1908, by the Rev. F. T. Kreuger. His death brings keen sorrow to his relatives and casts a gloom over all. Let our trust be in God and His mercy and goodness."
