JOSEPH
July 1919 Norwood "Joseph A. Watt, who underwent an operation for appendicitis in
France, and who was gassed and wounded on several occasions, came back home with the same
old 'pep' with which he left, and refuses to he an invalid.
During the celebration at Ouray he rode the famous Peking horse of the California Frank
show to a finish: coming home he engaged in breaking horses for W. I. Clark,
and thought this violent exercise was doing him no harm, but on Thursday
he went down in convulsions three times within an hour and
suffered from severe vomiting spells. Dr. Bollinger was called and gave
the sick man relieving medicines, and later Dr. Hadley was called from Montrose in
consultation, arriving here at 4 this morning, by which tinm the patient had
responded to the medical relief given by Dr. Bollinger, and oontinuing
to improve until 9 o'clock, Dr. Hadley felt he could leave him and returned to Montrose.
Joe's brothers, Harry and Luther, and his two sisters,
Mrs. Leo Sage and Mrs. Don Steele, were called and arrived in Norwood in the early
evening of Thursday, to be at their brother's side. It is safe to say that Joe will not
be permitted to again engage in his favorite pastime of riding roughgoing horses,
and Harry says that Joe will be kept quiet if he has to hogtie him. All will
be glad to know that the ex-soldier is rapidly improving and gives promise
of making a thorough recovery, notwithstanding, he had a very narrow escape
from death."
