"The body of Martin Theisen, pioneer rancher of the Conger Mesa,
was found Monday, September 7, hanging from a rope in a shed on his ranch.
He had shot himself thru the head with a .23 rifle -
after he had prepared the noose for his neck. The rope was fastened to the rafter.
Mr. Theisen stood on a barrel and had the slack rope around his neck before firing
the gun.
He had been depressed for some time on account of poor health.
Some neighbors were helping him put up the hay on the ranch Monday.
Mrs. Theisen went to Pershing to get the mail at 10:00. When she returned
she went about her work in the house, thinking her husband was with the men in
the field. When they came in for dinner they asked about Mr. Theisen,
because he was not with them. Then a search was made, with the startling
discovery of the body hanging from the rope.
Funeral services will be held at McCov Friday afternoon at 2: 00.
Mr. Theisen is survived by his wife and two daughters,
Mrs. Juanita Johnson of Wyoming and Mrs. Marie Fick of Denver.

He came to Routt county about 1902 from Westcliffe, Colo.
For a number of years he had a shoe and harness shop in Yampa,
and also kept shoes and leather goods for sale.
He has always been a respected citizen. His many friends were shocked at the
news of his tragic death and regret that his depressed feelings had
reached the point where he was led to take his own life."
