December 18, 1939 Dixon, Illinois "Edgar A. Patrick, long a beloved resident of Dixon, passed away at his home on Peoria avenue, at 9:20 o'clock Sunday evening, death ending a general decline in health, which followed a severe attack of pneumonia two years ago. Simple funeral services will be held at the home at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Herbert J. Doran, pastor of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in Oakwood beside his wife, who preceded him in death April 20, 1931.
Edgar Alanson Patrick was born in Dixon April 7, 1850, the son of Shepherd Goodwin and Phoebe Shaw Patrick, and his childhood and youth were spent here. His father, known throughout the community and state as 'Squire', was a distinguished citizen of Lee county and a brilliant attorney of state-wide renown, one of his outstanding legal attainments being his defense of Joe Smith, Mormon, and his saving of the accused from mob violence.
'Squire' Patrick served his country with honor during the Civil war, being an officer in two Union units during the conflict, and the father's intense patriotism was transmitted to his son, for when but 11 years of age, young Ed made his way to the railway depot at a time when a company of Dixon soldiers was leaving for the front and sought to enlist as a drummer boy, telling the officers in command he was 14 years old. Arrival of his mother just before the train departed resulted in the boy's application to enlist being denied. The Patrick love of country is undoubtedly a heritage from two of their early forbearsâ€"William Bradford, the second governor of Plymouth colony (1590-1657) and Major Zephen Flower of Revolutionary war renown.
Edgar Patrick's mother was a sister of the late Benjamin F. Shaw, founder of The Telegraph and was a sweet and gracious woman, who proudly kept the homg fires burning while the husband and father was at the front."

Patrick, the assayer of Turret, was in Salida Monday, after having spent several days in Turret looking over the camp with a view to securing some proprerty. He has associated with him several experienced mining men and capitalists, who have had an eye on the camp for some time, closely watching developments.
Mr. Patrick was so fortunate as to secure a lease and bond on the Jasper, famous as the best prospect near the surface in the entire district. Several parties have tried to secure this property, but have failed, in most cases the complaint being that the price asked was too high for any prospect. Mr. Patrick succeeded in securing a more reasonable figure, and now has the propIerty under bond for eighteen months, though he refused to state the amount of the bond. In fact ho had not intended to say anything about having secured the property, but the secret leaked out in spite of precautions.
Mr. Patrick says that it will require two months to got ready to work the property on the scale that the lessors intend. A good plant of machinery will be installed with the intention of demonstrating what there is in the property at considerable depth. As Mr. Patrick said: “Wo will either show that the Jasper is a rich mine or that there is nothing in it.' There is hardly room for doubt that it will prove a rich property, as some very rich ore lias already been shipped from it. The leasing of this property is the most important item in the history of tho camp since the great strike in the Vivandiese."

November 1906 Salida "Mrs. Charles G. Patrick, nee Miss Mae Armstrong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Armstrong, was taken to the Rio Grande hospital last Saturday forenoon suffering from ailments which have become almost unbearable and have caused great reduction of flesh and loss of former strength.

Mrs. Patrick is one of Salida's most talented and popular young ladies. She is possessed of a pure, sweet soprano voice and has many times delighted Salida audiences in her renditions of high class vocal selections. Mrs. Patrick and son, Loren, were visiting Mr. Patrick's parents in Cripple Creek when her hnsband, who was looking after mining interests in New Mexico, learned of his new position and after he came 00 to the Teller county capital, separation resulted, the mother and son coming to the home of Mrs. Patrick's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Armstrong, and Mr. Patrick proceeding to the great gold camp, where he is already installed as manager for the company above mentioned. Mrs. Patrick and son arrived in Salida last Wednesday evening and will remain here until a suitable home has been secured and made ready for them in Goldfield and this part of the program will be much more strenuous than it would have been bad they not disposed of all their household goods when leaving Nevada a few weeks ago. They were leaving Goldfield for good, and never had the slightest idea of again becoming residents there."
