May 5, 1899 Brush "Mrs. Ed Thompson and her little sons, left on No. 6 last Sunday for Bridgewater, Iowa, where her father, Joseph Orton, is lying seriously ill with little hope of recovery."

May 26, 1899 Brush "Joseph Orton was born in Canada, May 3,1838. Married Jane Crawford October 25, 1864. United with the M. E. church at the age of 24. Lived in Canada seven years and then moved to Michigan, where he resided three years, then came to Iowa, where he resided until his death at Bridgewater, May 5. Age 61 years, 2 days. He was the father of ten children, seven of whom are living. These together with a wife mourn the loss of a loving father and devoted husband. Another citizen has gone to join the ranks of those who come up through great tribulation and have had their robes made white and washed in the blood of the Lamb. Brother Orton had been ailing for a long time and had been confined to his bed since last Thanksgiving. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all.

POSSIBLY

Joseph Henry Orten was born in Sangamon County, Illinois January 19k 1853. Married Edith E. Kessler in 1878, and had Mary and George. They moved to Osborne County, Kanss in 1887. He married Elizabeth Hackerott on Oct 2, 1895 and had Charley, Hazel, Clarice, Josephine and Jennie. Jennie died in 1912.
He moved to Gove County in March 1901, farming ten miles south of Gove.
He died November 1912.
