April 20, 1900 "This community was dreadfully shocked at noon today when James Rasmusseni came in after the coroner and bearing the intelligence that Nelse Knudson had voluntarily taken his own life. Coroner Scull immediately left for the scene of the tragedy, two miles north of Sterling, and empanelled a jury consisting of T. W. Ritchie, H. J. Todd, S. R. Propst, Dan Evans, E. A. Warren and J. W. Landrum. Their verdict was that death was self-inflicted, as it was also instantaneous. Deceased had placed the muzzle of a 10-bore shotgun loaded with No. 5 shot against his breast about two inches below the breast bone and the charge tore a hole in his body three-fourths of an inch in diameter. The dead man was past iorty years of age and was a native of Denmark. He was sent to the asylum for treatment a couple vears ago and upon being discharged in an apparently sound state of mind, went with his wife on an extended visit to his native land. He was in town this morning and in conversation with L . M . Judd, expressed himself as tired of living. He also talked with Geo. E. McConley.
He -was a quiet, unassuming man and well liked by al1. The bereaved widow and children have the sympathy of a large circle of friends. The funeral of the late Nelse Knudson was held at the C. P. church at 2 o clock Thursday in the preseace of a large and sympathizing audience. Rev. J . Wood Stone was in charge of the last sad rites, after which the iemains were laid to rest in Riverview cemetery.
Card of Thanks - We desire to sincerely thank the neighbors and friends who came to our assistance in the time of awful bereavement.
MRS. NELSE KNUDSON
