"The News' force of linotype operators has set a new figure for an eight-hour shift of an entire force. The work was done in getting out Wednesday morning's News, and was from the copy sent in as usual from the editorial rooms, there being no preparation of any copy beforehand. The force was the regular one on the paper, those who hold the situations, and not men picked from different offices for the trial. The best previous record made by an entire force was that working on the Albany Journal, when five men produced a total of 229,591 ems, an average of 45,912 to the man for the eight hours. The average made by The News force was 50 per cent greater than this.
The following table shows the result per man: Ems. Hours.
C. A. Nichols 84,500 8:00
R. B. Tyler 70,200 7:40
A. W. Stevenson 60,400 7:50
