Funeral for George P. Hicks, 1645 SE Tenino St., a retired streetcar operator, will be at 1 p.m. Friday from McGinnis and Wilhelm Chapel under auspices of Sellwood Masonic Lodge No. 131, AF&AM. Private committal will be in Riverview Cemetery. Mr. Hicks was born Aug. 4, 1873, in Somerset, Ky., and moved to Portland in 1918. He died Wednesday. He was a streetcar operator for the old Portland Electric Power from 1918 to 1938 when he retired. He was a member of the P.E.P. 20-year club, the Sellwood Eastern Star No. 92 and Sellwood Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his widow, Martha S.; son, Donald B.; daughter, Mrs. Helen L. Bish, Spokane; sister, Mrs. Carl Johnson; brother, James, and two grandchildren."

" Dr. Gordon Jones, 72, Olympia, died Sunday, June 29, 1986, while on a fishing trip with his friends at his cabin in Canada. Dr/ Jones practiced surgery in Olympia from 1947, until his retirement in 1979. Born in Ridgefield in 1914, Dr. Jones was graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois in 1934, a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity and a track letterman. He was graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1938, and received a four year surgical appointment to the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Jones served ss a surgeon in the Navy in the 8outh Pacific during World War II and played an active role in caring for our participants wounded in the invasions of Okinawa and Iwo Jlma. He was past president of the Thurston-Mason County Medical Society, the Olympia Surgical Club, the staff at St. Peter's Hospital, and was chairmsn of the Surgery Committee. He was also on the staff at Lakewood General, Mason General, and Centralla Hospitals until his retirement, was an avid sportsman and pilot.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, one daughter, Nancy Layland, Olympia: two sons, Gordon Jr., Olympia, and David, Bellevue, his mother, May Jones, Olympia, one sister Lois 8trauss Olympia and six grandchildren 1 At Dr Jones' request there will be no funeral sendee ."

He was one of the early Boy Scout leaders and was an ardent sports fan. He was called upon as an offirial many times in the Western Big Ten Conference. He was a charter member and the first president of the Olymnia Lions Club, a member of Masonic Lodge No. One, a Shriner, a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, chairman of the board of directors of the Olymnia State Bank, and a member of the First Christian Church. In addition, he had many professional affiliations.
He is survived by his wife May Jones: two sons Dr. Gordon Jones of Olympia, with whom he was associated here, and Robert Jones, Portland, Oregon: a daughter, Lois Virginia Strauss, Seattle, his father, Frank Jones, Turner, Oregon: and two sisters, Lnrille Ricwcrts, Oakland, and Alduln Robertson, Eugene, Oregon, also five grandchildren. The funeral service will take place in Mills Chapel this Tuesday afternoon.
