October 1917 "Having recently visited the Black Hills and our own old friend and neighbor, J. A. Corbin and family, living in the village of Spearfish, S. D., situated in a productive valley of fruit and flowers, grain and vegetables of all kinds.
I thought some of his many friends would be glad to hear of him and learn of his prosperity. Mr. Corbin is enjoying a prosperous mercantile business in the midst of the wonderful invigorating air of the Black Hills, laden with the fragrance of the pines. One day, after climbing to the top of Mount Lookout, one of the highest peaks, we had a fine view both up and down the valley, and with Spearfish just beneath us, with its trees and flowers and fruit, it was a grand sight and one long to be remembered. We also visited a 25-acre orchard loaded with apples, and saw other smaller ones which proclaimed it a fruit country as well. Mr. and Mrs. Corbin have a pleasant modern home, shaded by large trees, and we shall not soon forget the happy three weeks' visit in their hospitable home.
