He is the second son of J. A. Corbin of near Atwood."
October 1911 Sterling "If you want to see what good corn really looks like go up to tbe office of K. Buchanan and inspect a dozen, ears which were brought In by James Corbin. Tbe corn is of tbe flint variety, tbe ears averaging about ten inches in length, with two or three of them a little more than eleven Inches. The corn is equal to any produced by the best corn states. "
October 1917 "Having recently visited the Black Hills and our own old friend and
neighbor, J. A. Corbin and family, living in the village of Spearfish, S. D.,
situated in a productive valley of fruit and flowers, grain and vegetables of all kinds.
I thought some of his many friends would be glad to hear of him and learn of his
prosperity. Mr. Corbin is enjoying a prosperous mercantile business in the midst of the
wonderful invigorating air of the Black Hills, laden with the fragrance of the pines.
One day, after climbing to the top of Mount Lookout, one of the highest peaks, we had a
fine view both up and down the valley, and with Spearfish just beneath us, with its
trees and flowers and fruit, it was a grand sight and one long to be remembered.
We also visited a 25-acre orchard loaded with apples, and saw other smaller ones which
proclaimed it a fruit country as well. Mr. and Mrs. Corbin have a pleasant modern home,
shaded by large trees, and we shall not soon forget the happy three weeks' visit in
their hospitable home.
E. J. S. "
January 1918 "Mrs. J. H. Corbin, one of the early residents of Logan county, now
of Spearfish, S. D., is visiting with her daughters, Mrs. Will Frost and
Mrs. I. L. Bramer of Iliff. Mr. Corbin was at one time one of the stalwart oldline
republicans of the county, Atwood and Cedar being his strongholds.
Only the two children are now living in Logan county.
J. C. Scott of The Advocate experienced pleasure in seeing Mrs. Corbin, having
known her for the past thirty years, and it is hoped that she will be privileged to
visit frequently with her old-time friends here."
February 1918 "Mrs. J. A. Corbin, who has been visiting friends of long acquaintance
in Sterling, has left with her granddaughter, Miss Clara Braymer, for a visit at
Ttislamugno, Oklahoma. Mrs. Corbin now lives in South Dakota. For many years she was a
resident of Logan county, and her son was at one time county surveyor. She noted many
changes in Sterling and was delighted to see the development of the city. "
June 1918 Pawnee Valley items in the Sterling paper "James Corbin and wife, former
pioneers of this neighborhood, visited all their old friends here last week."
