November 1961 Medford, Oregon " Funeral services for Joseph C. Chez, 234 North Ivy, who died Thursday, will be held Monday, Nov. 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Perl Funeral home. The Rev. D. K. West, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Interment will be private at Siskiyou Memorial park.
Mr. Chez, the son of James and Barbara Chez, was born on Jan. 24, 1869, in Richmond, Iowa. In 1897, he was graduated from Georgetown University Law school, Washington, D. C., and practiced law in Shelbyville, for three years. He then moved to Ogden, Utah, where he practiced law for more than 40 years. He served two terms in the Utah State Senate and later served eight years as attorney general of the state of Utah. When he retired from law practice in 1945, he moved to Medford, where he became active in the real estate business, retiring in 1954.
Mr. Chez was an elder In the Presbyterian church in Ogden, Utah, a leader in many Ogden civic affairs, and a past member of many fraternal organizations. On May 16, 1900, in Shelbyville, he was married to Jessie M. McCorkle, who survives. Other survivors include three sons, Fred, Medford; Richard, Seattle, Paul, Fresno, three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Miriam) Rhea, Elko, Mrs. Arthur (Jeanne) Chapman, Portland, and Mrs. Paul (Frances) Kingston, Yakima, 14 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. Two sons, Joseph C. Jr. and Robert preceded him in death."



John claimed a quarter in section 19, 7N 54W in 1891.

June 27, 1939 Iowa City " for John Chez, who died at the home of hi niece, Mrs. Joe Mai-itchlcy near Richmond, where he ha lived the last nine years. A Mr. Che was born May 16,1861, , and came to America when he was five years of age with the exception of a few year he passed his entire life in this vicinity. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Anna Musil of Sicklerville, N. a brother, Joseph of Salt Lake City, Utah, and several nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers, Frank and Anthony, and a half-brother, Wencil Chez, preceded him in death.
