"Henry Eugene Briley, 81, pioneer Ames resident and business man, died at 5:30 p. m. Wednesday, June 19, 1935, in the Mary Greeley hospital. He had been ill for a long time with diabetes. He was born on a farm near Ontario Nov. 4, 1853. He opened and operated the first meat market in Ames, near his present home, 247 Sheldon avenue. He is survived by his wife and four sons, O., Jim, Ralph, and Newt, all of Ames; three sisters, Mrs. Ezra Ward and Mrs. Sam Manges, Ames, and Mrs. Jim Johnson, Ontario; one brother, O. M., Ames. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Harry, Glendora. Leah Belle, Betty and Charles, and one great-grandchild, Hal Eugene.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Friday in the Collegiate Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Walter Barlow in charge. The body will lie in state at the Duckworth Funeral home until noon Friday. Burial will be in the Ames cemetry. "
