October 1896 Be it known that I, BEN WHITELEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sterling, in the county of Logan and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Pins and Button-Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in hair-pins, and it has for its objects, among others, to provide a simple and cheap construction of hair-pin, embodying likewise a button-hook or glove-buttoner. It is designed, primarily, for use just prior to election times as a holder, by means of which a photograph of a favorite candidate or the emblem of a political party can be displayed. The shank portion is formed of a single piece of wire bent into the required form, and is mounted for movement in guides on the back of the emblem or photograph, and is adapted for use either as a pin or a button-hook, means being provided for limiting the movement of the pin in both directions
