My Ggrandfather's brother, Gerhard Dietrich ("George") Stulken, lived for a while in Furnass County NE, and apparently was unsuccessful at farming there.  He moved to McCook (Red Willow Co), and later went out to Los
Angeles, where he is listed as a shoemaker in the city directories.  Are you aware that there is an area historical society in Frontier county?
The Stulkens are from Oldenburg, somewhere near Varel, but I haven'tlocated my great grandfather's birthplace exactly.

The name "Behnke" also rings a bell with me since one of the faculty members with whom I teach is a Behnke.  But Behnke is a fairly common name.  His family is from near Berlin.

Best wishes,
Marilyn Stulken
