saleslady in a general store. They're living with brother-in-law Oscar
Olson, 31, a grocer, and Elen M. 26. Next household is Tarlton Hawkins, 46

Carl Elvin Sharpe was born 3-7-1891, in Haxtun, Colorado, the son of
Nils Wilhelm Sharpe and Johanna Christina Andersdotter, both born in
Sweden. He was blessed to have 14 siblings, 10 of whom lived to
adulthood. He worked the farm with his family, until he entered the
Army, in 1918, during WWI. Upon his enlistment, Carl was sent to the
Cavalry, as were most farm boys. However, he was not just an experienced
horseman and mule handler; but, proved that he could drive a 6-horse
hitch, a talent much needed by the cavalry. Soon wishing for something
new, he revealed that he was also a motorcyclist and was sent to serve
as a dispatcher between command units. When one general observed his
talent for drawing maps, he performed in that capacity until the war
ended.
On 8-19-1925, in Wray, Colorado, Carl was married to Frances (Fannie)
Lenora Boren, a marriage that truly lasted until "death do you part." A
funny thing, Carl had actually, gone to Fannie's house to propose to her
sister, Pearl; but, Pearl wasn't home. Carl was on his way to
California, in his new 1925 Star, set on taking a wife with him. Carl
and Frances had one daughter, Barbara Jean Sharpe, born 1-12-1929, in
Denver, Colorado. Carl worked as a carpenter, drawing the plans, and
building some homes for Fannie and himself. In the 1930's, he worked
building sets for some Hollywood movies, and met a lot of well-known
movie stars. Later, he worked for his new son-in-law, Eugene Leon
Durand, who married his precious Barbara Jean in 1947. He was always a
kind, fun-loving, and generous person, who was often telling fun
stories, or singing silly Swedish songs. He died April 22, 1987 in
Paso Robles, California.
