Christian and Harriet (Coleman) Murray, their son John H. and Ella Murray

In 1870 Dallas County, Iowa, Christ Murray 38 and Harriet 32 have John 4, Samuel 2, and Frank 1.  On the same page are Martin Simpson 31 and Elizabeth 28, with Thomas 6, Michigan  Mary E. 3, Michigan, and Ada three months.

In 1882 Christian filed for an invalid pension - in Iowa for service in the Illinois 14th, and Harriet filed for a widow's pension in 1905 from Colorado.

Christian proved up a quarter in 7, 7N 48W in 1895, and John H. next to it in 1901.



October 7, 1898 "Lou Thimgan and Miss Emily Murray were quietly married at the home of the bride's brother, Mr. John Murray, at Fleming yesterday, Rev. G. A. W. Cage officiating
The happy couple went to Denver on the Gulf fast mail this morning. After spending a few days visiting relatives and seeing the carnival, they will go on to Los Angeles, California, where they will make their future home . The Democrat wishes them lifelong happiness."


John H. Murray also proved up a quarter in 7, in 1901.
January 1900 "John Murray is in from the Frenchman to attend court."

In 1900 Rockland precinct (same page as the Simpson families) Christian Murray born Feb 1832, married 36 years to Harriet Oct 1837 Illinois.  They have John H. July 1865 Illinois and his wife Ella Dec 1866 Michigan married 12 years.  They have Mamie A, July 1888, Glen B. (daughter) Oct 1889, Belle Jan 1892, Jessie Oct 1893, Ward M. April 1896 and Hazel S. Feb 1899, all kids born in Colorado.

Christian, born Feb 7, 1832 in Virginia died August 27, 1905 and is buried in Haxtun

Civil War Soldier, Union Army, served in the Illinois 14th Infantry Regiment Company C. Spouse - Harriet Coleman Murray 1838-1936 (buried in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Rocky Ford, Colorado).   Harriet was living with Frank W., in 1910 and 1920 in Otero County, and with John and Ellen Murray in Otero County in 1930.

Jessie Ellen Murray, born Oct 14, 1893 passed away Jan 1, 1909. Her sister Emeline Belle 1892 and brother Ward  1896 passed away 1 week earlier on Dec 25,1908 all from scarlet fever. They were the children of John H. & Mary Ellen Murray 
 

In 1910 Sterling John is 43, a real estate dealer, with Ellen 42, Glen 20, Hazel 11, Hayden 9, and Ray 7.

In 1920 Otero County, Colorado, John is a dairy farmer, and he and Mary Ellen have Hayden L, 19, John R. 17, and grandchildren Kenneth 11, Katherine G. 9, and Ross P. 8 Kearney.

The next household is Harriet 83 and Frank W. 51, also widowed.

John and Mary are in Otero County in 1930 and 1940.

One tree said John H. died Jan 30, 1956 in Rocky Ford.  It also said he married Mary Ellen Simpson, born 1867 in Michigan.
