Hans P. Holt, Rosella Holt

Rosella cash-claimed  a quarter in 7, 7N 48W on April 2, 1891.  There's a BLM record of a homestead filing by "Rasella", but apparently it wasn't completed.

Hans cash-claimed a quarter in 3, 7N 48W, March 30, 1891.

Rosella Holt married Isaac C. Cartwright in Springfield, Colorado March 8, 1894.

Isaac C. Cartwright, born about 1869, married Ina L. Thompson, born about 1895, in Lamar Colorado Nov 20, 1913.

In 1920 Holly, Colorado, Isaac 48 and Ina L. 24 have Eugene M. 4 and Blanche, 1.

In 1930 Holly Isaac and Ina have Eugene, Blanche, and have added Erma I. 9, and Laura M. 6.

In 1940 Isaac C., born in West Virginia, 71, is in Holly Colorado, with Irma , 19, daughter, born in Colorado.

Isaac proved up two quarters in 12, 21S 42W Prowers County in 1916.

In 1870 Benton County, Iowa, D.M. Caldwell 38, is farming with C.E. 36,  both saying they were born in Indiana, son J.J. 9, daughter E. N. 8, and daughter S. E. 2, all in Iowa.

In 1880 Benton County, Iowa, Eliza Caldwell is 18, with Daniel M. (no occupation - head injured) 49, born in Ohio, Catherine 45 does washing, born in Indiana.  Eliza 18, Sarah E. 12, John S. 9, Hugh D. 7 all born in Iowa. One tree said Eliza Margaret (Caldwell) Holt died April 25, 1888 in Colorado.  That would be a month after Emory was born.

When Emory M. Holt married Florence M. Dailey in Benton County, Iowa January 3, 1907, he said he was born to Hans Holt and Margaret Caldwell in 1886 in Holyoke Colorado.  But when he registered he said March 9, 1888, still Holyoke Colorado.  He was a machine operator in Waterloo, Iowa, with a wife and two children.

The 1925 census of Waterloo had E. M. Holt, born about 1888, son of H.P Holt born in Norway and Maggie Caldwell born in Iowa.

In 1945 Waterloo, Iowa,  Emory had a grocery store.

MARRIED - Guernsey & Holt: At the residence of John Sykes near Paoli, April 6th, 1890 by Rev. H.B. Cook, Otis Guernsey and Miss Ora Holt of Phillips County, Colorado.  Otis was 27, Ora 18. 

 The  Otis was - per findagrave 44614397 born Sep 14, 1833 , and died May 6, 1909, buried in Grant County, Oregon,  is a brother of Joseph H. 1836-1899 buried in Holyoke.

Otis proved up a quarter in 5, 7N 46W (near Paoli) in 1893.  He might be a brother of John Guernsey, which Findagrave has buried in Paoli 1864-1887

When Joseph Guernsey died in 1934 "Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Johnston of Holyoke, Mrs. Clara Perdieu of Goodland, Kansas and Mrs. Jessie Sheridan of Sugar City, Colorado, two sons, C.A. Guernsey of Holyoke and C.M. Guernsey of Haigler, Nebraska"

Chester Guernsey cash-claimed a quarter next to his in 1891.

Clarence M. Guernsey proved up a quarter in 14 and 23 6N 45W in 1913, and then a stock-raising quarter in 23, 26 and 27 in 6N 45W in 1921.  That's an area  of sand hills. 

The heirs of Craig Guernsey proved up a quarter in 34, 8N 46W in 1898 - only a few miles from Otis' claim.

Ora  may be related, to John W. Holt, who was in Washington County in 1900 about twenty miles southwest of Paoli - John is 53, Prudence J 52, son Charles W. 22, and adopted daughter Ora Holt born March 1892 in Nebraska.
