Stull - First called Deer Creek, the area was settled by people of German ancestry, mainly Pennsylvania Dutch. By 1857, six families were living in the area and two years later, the settlers organized the Evangelical Emmanuel Church. In 1867, they built a stone church on land donated by Jacob Hildenbrand. Sermons at the church were preached in German until 1908.

Edwin Peter Hildenbrand,
91, Lecompton, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral
Home in Topeka. Burial will be in Stull Cemetery. Mr. Hildenbrand died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1993, at a Topeka nursing home. He was born Jan. 29, 1902, near Stull, the son of George John and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Neis Hildenbrand. He graduated from Deer Creek Grade School and attended Lawrence Business College. Mr. Hildenbrand was a farmer and stockman near Stull. He was a member and elder of Stull Church of Christ and a member of the Lecompton Historical Society. He also was sexton of Stull Cemetery for many years. He married Rosa L. Roller on Oct. 22, 1924, near Stull. She died March 31, 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Margie Hildenbrand, Lecompton; and two sisters, Dorothy Moss, Topeka, and Naomi Nelson-Adair, South Bend, Ind. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
