William and John had met in Chicago where sister Lena lived, traveled through St. Louis, where they attended the fair, and went to Denver to meet Carl.
John Adler
In 1885 Holdrege John Adler, 37, a butcher, born in Prussia, and Mary 36, have August 9, born in Missouri, Lena 6, Missouri, Molly 3 Missouri, and Fred 1, Nebraska.
John timber-claimed 160 acres in 30, 7N 48W in 1895. The same year he proved up 160 acres, half in 7, 4N 47W, Phillips County, and half in 12, 7N 48W, Logan County.

The Adler family history said that John gave credit to customers, and kept records, including a credit record for Mrs. Jesse James in St. Joseph. Mary "Molly" was born there, then they moved to Holdredge where Fred was born. Mary's niece Rosie Adler joined them there.
1899 John Adler told the newspaper about a wonderful crop over in the Frenchman country (east of Sterling). He said had Fred Dorn had experienced great trouble in digging his potato crop. The upland spuds raised by Mr. Dorn were so large that it was impossible to get them out of the ground by ordinary methods, so the happy farmer had ordered an imported stump puller from St. Louis and will try it on his tuber crop.

In 1900 Sterling John Adler, born June 1848 in Germany, is a butcher, married 24 years to Madaline born Feb 1847, also in Germany. They have John, born August 1874, Amelia P., Sep 1881, both Missouri, Fred W. Nov 1883 in Nebraska, and Ida A. Feb 1888 in Colorado. Brother Emil Adler Aug 1878 in Germany is a butcher apprentice.
(Carl Emil Adler had immigrated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to live with his sister and husband Joseph Berms, and was a baker in their bakery there. For a while he was a cook on the Union Pacific between Julesburg iand Sterling. He was naturalized April 30, 1904 in Denver. Carl Emil Adler tombstone in Crown Hill says he was born 1879- died 1953,

August J. Adler registered in Boulder, saying he was born Aug 20, 1876, and was a miner, wife Lillian.

In 1920 Sterling John 71 and Maryetta 73 said they were both born in Badean, Germany.
John -1848-1925 is buried in Sterling 14838615, as is Mary 1847-1931. Mary Christine Adler died December 27, 1931 at the home of her daughter six miles northeast of Haxtun. She was born February 5, 1847 in Germany to Geo Martin Adler and Anna Marina Janlein. Informant was Ida Ross of Sterling.

John and Mary Magdalina Adler Adler
(note: It is unusual for a man whose surname is Adler to
marry a woman whose surname is also Adler. Interesting
too is both John and his wife Mary Magdalena came from
the same area in Germany.) They were married on the 21
August, 1873 in Adams County, Illinois. He became a
citizen of the United States on 21 Oct. 1876 in the St.
Louis, MO. court.
The census lists him as a butcher by trade. The family migrated West in a covered wagon and lived in Holdrege, Nebraska where they had a meat market, a photo of that market is on this page. They later homesteaded several miles southwest of Haxtun, Colorado, in what was then a wilderness prairie land. That homestead was later sold. The following is a quotation taken from his obituary- Mr. Adler first came to Sterling, Colorado when the Holdrege- Cheyenne line of the Burlington Railroad was being constructed in 1885. He then held a contract to furnish meat for the working crews. He followed the movements of the construction outfits, returning to Sterling to make his home when the line was completed. He established a meat market here, which he conducted until about fifteen years ago. For a number of years he lived on the farm just east of the Platte river bridge, now known as Motor Inn. Mr. Adler is survived by his wife and five children: Mrs. Roland Ross, Sterling; Fritz Adler, Hudson, Colorado; Gus Adler, Boulder, Colorado; Mrs. Lena Martin of Haxtun and Mary, who resides in Ohio. John's death certificate says he was born June 29, 1848 and died November 21, 1925, shooting himself below his heart, contributed to by thyroid cancer.

The school mentioned is probably John Loew who claimed land near the Adler family.
Mollie, born Oct 3, 1890, married Fred Brunkhardt January 13, 1911, died Feb 13, 1920, buried in Sterling.
August J. born 1876 in Missouri, and Lillian C. are in Boulder in 1920 and 1930, where he sells mining supplies.
In 1940 they're in Boulder, where Anna Maber, Lillian's mother, 84 is with them. Anna was in Colfax County, Nebraska in 11935.
Fred William Adler registered in Elko County, Nevada, born Nov 14, 1884, was a cowboy working for Utah Construction Company , nearest relative John Adler of Sterling, Colorado.
Ida, 21, in 1910 Sterling is married to Roland R. Ross, 24, a laborer in a pool hall. They have Dorothy 3 and Roland 1, and cousin Minnie Walters, 18, Missouri, a telephone operator.
