PIONEER OF NORTHEASTERN COLORADO LAID TO REST MONDAY

Charles R. Boehme was born in Illinois January 5, 1869. He later lived in Nebraska, and moved with his parents to Colorado in 1888, where his father homesteaded in the Cedar Valley, north of Sterling. Mr. Boehme homesteaded near Dailey in 1904, where his home had been since. Charles proved up on a quarter in 20, 8N 48W in 1913.

On the 14th of June, 1903, he was married to Emma J. Phillips of Haxtun. Mrs. Boehme died February 11, 1914, leaving five children, all of whom are living. Mr. Boehme died after a long illness. He is survived by his aged mother and five sisters.

The deceased was a member of the Haxtun Methodist church. The funeral was held at the Methodist church Monday afternoon, interment being in the Haxtun cemetery.

Caroline Boehme Claimed by Death

Mrs. Caroline Boehme*, 90, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Acott, nine miles east of Haxtun, on Sunday, May 13.

Mrs. Boehme was one of the real early settlers in this section of Colorado moving with her family to this state from Nebraska about 45 years ago.

She was the mother of 13 children, seven of whom survive. They are: Louise Boehme of Los Angeles, California, Emma Kelber of Merino, Colorado, Mrs. Charles Acott of Haxtun, Mrs. Marie Townley of Rising City, Nebraska, Laura Boehme of California, and Mrs. Anna Hartman of Haxtun. There are also 21 grandchildren who survive.

Mrs. Boehme had been a patient sufferer for more than a quarter of century, having been an invalid for the past 30 years. She came to live with her daughter near Haxtun about eight years ago.

Harold Boehme (must be Willett H.) is in Butler County, Nebraska in 1920, nephew of Robert C. 66 and Myria 61 Townley. William 31 and Emma 25 Townley are also in the household.

Harold W. Boehme 1909-1990 and Wilma L. 1920-2009 are buried in Olinger, Thornton, Colorado.

Larry Andrew Barkley, 64, of Fleming, died Oct. 25, 2005, in Fleming. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Tennant Funeral Home. A memorial service is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Fleming United Methodist Church with the Rev. Al Strauss presiding. Inurnment will follow at Fleming Cemetery. Mr. Barkley was born July 13, 1941, in Fleming to William L. and Nora (Boehme) Barkley. He graduated from Fleming High School in 1959 and attended Colorado State University. In 1961 he married Doris Frank. He was a self-employed as a farmer and real estate agent. He was a member of the Sterling Elks Club, Haxtun American Legion, National Pony Express Association and Fleming Saddle Club, and served on the Fleming Rural Fire Board and Fleming Co-op Board. He was a member of Fleming United Methodist Church. Mr. Barkley is survived by his wife, Doris C. Barkley; three children, Wendy L. Schulz of Kersey, Eric William Barkley of Fleming, and Rick Allen Barkley of Fleming; one brother, Bob Barkley of Greeley; and two grandchildren.
