Toomay

In 1880 Genesee County, New York, William Toomay is 14, with parents Timothy and "Mar" Toomay. Siblings are John 24, Michael 23, Kate 20, Timothy 18, Hannah 16, and Mary 11.

In 1886 Michael Toomay of Millville was the wealthiest farmer in Ray County, estimated wealth $130,000, accumulated in farming and trading; began without a cent; born in Ireland; 40 years in county; uncompromising Republican. Michael's obituary in 1914 said he was the son of John and Margaret Toomay, born at Middleton Ireland Nov 20, 1831 -and one Ancestry tree said Timothy was his brother, so an uncle of William.

David Toomay was born near Middleton, Cork County, Ireland, Dec. 25, 1843 and died at his home in Ray County, Missouri on February 21, 1917.
He came to America at the age of 9 years, with his father (John Twomey), one brother (Edward "Ned" Toomay) and one sister (Joan "Anna" Toomay-later married Patrick Foley). He made the entire trip from his native country to Peoria, Illinois, by water coming by way of New Orleans. From Peoria he went to Bloomington, Illinois, where he joined two of his older brothers (Michael Toomay and Timothy Toomay) and remained there two years. In the year of 1856, the four brothers, Michael, Timothy, Edward and David came
to Missouri and all established their permanent homes, and the deceased has spent more than sixty years in the home place where he died.
He is the youngest of five brothers, three of whom have preceded him to the grave; Daniel Toomay died at an early age in New York City, Timothy Toomay died in 1896, and Michael Toomay died May 1, 1914. Edward Toomay, the surviving brother, now lives in Chula Vista, California. The only sister, Mrs. Anna Foley, died in Illinois some years ago.

November 24, 1887 Richmond, Missouri (Ray County) Georgeville section "William Toomay arrived here from Colorado, to spend the winter with his parents.

The Denver land office records have a timber-claim for him in that township, but BLM doesn't, so it must have not been completed.

The 1900 census of Ray County, Missouri has Wm. Toomay, a merchant, born July 1865 in Missouri, married nine years to Emma March 1874 Missouri. They have Tina Oct 1891, Edith Oct 1894, and Glen Sept 1899, all kids born in Missouri.

On the same page is a Garrison Toomay born April 1867 and his family, including a cousin Noah Toomay born June 1880., both born in Missouri.

The 1907 census of Seminole County, Oklahoma Territory, has William M. Toomay, 43, Emma J. 34, Edith S. 12, and Herman G. 7.

In 1910 Seminole County William "Toomey" is 44, Emma 36, with Edith 15 and Myrtle three months.

In 1920 Seminole County William 55 and Emma 46 are farming, and have Myrtle, 9, born in Oklahoma.

Findagrave 68730858 has William 1863-1938 buried in Schoolton Cemetery, Seminole County, Oklahoma says "

"William Truman Toomay, son of Timothy Toomay and Martha Fisher, married Emma Josephine Wheeler, daughter of William F. Wheeler and Martha Smith, 01 January 1891, Black Oak, Caldwell Co., MO. To this marriage were born: Tina A., Edith, Glenn, and Myrtle.

William was born, Grape Grove, Ray Co., MO and died Las Cruces, Dona Ana Co.,NM."

Glen "Son of William and Emma" born Sept 9, 1899 died October 15, 1908 is buried in the same cemetery.

David Toomay, born Dec 25, 1843 in Ireland to John and Margaret Toomay, died Feb 2, 1917, and buried in Little Union - so he would be another uncle of William.
