February 1891 Holyoke Mrs. Frank Nichols, of Wallace, Nebraska, is visiting her sister, Mrs. A. Sholes, ten miles southeast of town. This is probably his brother Arthur J. Sholes, who witnessed the land claim of George Riddle in 6N 44W.
Orrin proved up a quarter in 7, 6N 43W in 1895 (Phillips County, far southeast corner).
Orrin H. Sholes married Luella Pollock April 23, 1899, recorded in Phillips County. She is probably Luella Poe - daughter of George Poe, who arrived in Holyoke with his family in 1886. Luella J. Poe, daughter of George H. Poe and Annie Brungton, married Albert B. Pollock, 25, in Knox County, Illinois February 16, 1887. Albert's parents were John Pollock and Martha Neely. George and Annie are buried in Holyoke.
A.B. Pollock, 1862-1898 is buried in Holyoke, so he's certainly Luella's first husband.
Louella's sister Lizzie L. Poe, born about 1867, married Andrew C. Cauble Nov 27, 1889, recorded in Phillips County.
In 1900 Phillips County Orrin H. born March 1865 in Illinois, has been married one year to Louella J. born March 1866 in Illinois. With them are Frank W. "Polack" June 1890 Colorado, May L. June 1894 Illinois, and Bruce L. born January 1897 Colorado. Louella's had six kids, three living.
July 1908 Mrs. O.H. Sholes returned from Denver the first of the week. O.H. Sholes has had his race horses at Denver and Littleton and is now at Fort Morgan.
O.H. Sholes returned the first of the week from Fort Morgan where he had been
with his running horses. He says Fort Morgan had the best fourth of July
celebration that he has ever attended.

In 1910 Phillips County, Orrin is 45, married eleven years to Louella J. 46 (her second marriage). She's had four kids, three living, one being Bruce Pollock, 13, born in Colorado. Orrin's (brother?) Ray Sholes, 23, born in Illinois, and (step-daughter?) May Sholes, married one year, are with them. That might mean that older brother-younger brother married mother-daughter. The county transcription of the census has a note "Louella Poe" by that family.

Memphis, Tenn, offered O.H. Sholes of Holyoke, Colo. $5,000 for the bay mare
Anna Axme which won the three year old pace. Sholes refused the offer, as he

| Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, October 5, 1939 Funeral services were held at 3:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the Colver Brothers Funeral Home for Frank W. Pollock, Holyoke resident many years, who died Monday morning in Fort Morgan following a long illness. At the time of his death, he was 49 years, six months and 17 days old. His death was due to a cerebral hemorrhage. Rev. William Pepper, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, officiated at the services. Musical numbers were furnished by a male quartet composed of A.W. McFadden, W.H. Rouze, Dr. P.S. Struble and G.L. Bereman. Burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery. The deceased was born in Holyoke, Colorado, March 15, 1890. He had spent his entire life in the Holyoke community with the exception of eight years spent in Humeston, Iowa, and Alexis, Illinois. During the past few months, he had made his home in Fort Morgan. Deceased was united in marriage to Miss Zeta Summers, March 10, 1910. Survivors are his aged mother, Mrs. Luella Pollock of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Ned Dayton of Fort Morgan; three sons, Albert and Forrest Pollock of Holyoke, and Lee Pollock of San Diego, California; one brother, Bruce Pollock of Weldon, Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. W.J. Sholes Dies at Pueblo; Body Brought Here for Services Funeral services were held at the Colver Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon for Orrin Hubbard (Dick) Sholes, long time resident of the Holyoke territory, who died Saturday at the state hospital in Pueblo. The services were in charge of B.H. Schrader, pastor of the Church of Christ, and burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery. Mr. Sholes, son of Orrin J. and Sarah Sholes, was born at Prophetstown, Illinois March 9, 1865 and came to Phillips County in his early manhood and had made his home here since that time. For many years he owned a number of fast horses and several seasons he followed the eastern racing circuits with his harness horses. His ranch was located southwest of Holyoke. Surviving are one brother, E.L. Sholes, of Prophetstown; a grandson, Bruce Sholes, Omaha, Nebraska; two granddaughters, Mrs. Verna Logan and Mrs. Martha Row, Des Moines, Iowa. |

Frank W. Pollock born March 15, 1889 in Holyoke, registered in Eureka Springs Arkansas, married with three children, and in 1920 they're in Mercer County Illinois - Frank 29, Zeta 30, Albert G. 9, Edith Mary 7, Marvin D. 5, and Forest P. 2.
In 1925 Frank and Zeta are on the same census page as Bruce in Wayne County, Iowa.

Roy Albert Sholes, born Sep 17, 1886, died Sept 28, 1917 in Monmouth, Warren County, Illinois, a farmer. He had registered with an address of Alexis, Illinois, born at Prophetstown, Illinois, and had a wife and three children.
In 1920 Mercer County, Illinois, May Sholes, 27, is widowed, with Bruce 6, Verna May 4, and Martha 3. Mother Louella Sholes, 53, is with her.
William J. Bartlow married Lena Raye Bagley in Des Moines, Iowa July 14, 1910. His parents were W.A. Bartlow and Rosana Pierson, hers were James D. Bagley and Melvinie Newton. Lena was born about 1891 in Blunt, South Dakota.
Louella May married William J. Bartlow October 6, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa.
