POSSIBLE - John A. Lowrance, born Dec 1859 in Missouri, farming in Laclede County Misouri in 1900, married eleven years to Barbary A. Jun 1872 Missouri.  They have Maud Dec 1889, Alma Feb 1893, William June 1896 and roy Sep 1898, all kids born in Missouri.

J.A. Lawrance (Barbara) is in Greeley in 1906, farming, and Maud, a student at Greeley High School, is living with them.

Alma M. in 1910 is living with grandparents Thomas J. and Mary E. Adkinson in Callaway County, Missouri.

In 1920 Greeley, Barbara A. Lawrence, 45, said she was widowed.   William 22 and Roy 21 are laborers at the sugar beet factory, and she has Elsie M. 6, born in Colorado.

In 1930 Greeley, John is 70, divorced, living with son Roy 29 and his wife Tillie, 20, born in Idaho.

One tree said Barbara Ann Davis was born June 13, 1873 in Lebanon Missouri, and died in Greeley Jun 1, 1937, and John died May 28, 1941 in Weld County.

ANOTHER MORE LIKELY - if only because his printing experience is similar to a couple other land claimants.

John A. Lawrence and Ollie Swanson married October 13, 1880 in Ida Grove, Iowa.  His father was L.J. Lawrence, mother Caroline Esholen.  Her father was Christian Swanson, mother Ellen Oleson.

In 1900 Crawford County, John has been married 20 years to Ollie.  Clifton was born Aug 1883 in Iowa, and Fred Nov 1886 in Nebraska - so they didn't stay in Crawford County.

In 1910 Denver, Ollie has had four children, one living.  John A. is a printer, having his own shop, saying he immigrated in 1863.

Oliva (Ollie) Swanson was born on 10 Jun 1859 in Roshult, Hillorp, Norra Åkarp, Skåne, L, SE. She immigrated on 4 Jul 1866 to Swedebend from SE. Mrs. Ollie Lawrence was born at Roshult, Hillurp, Skane, Sweden, 10 June 1858, the daughter of Christian and Elna Swenson. She emigrated from Sweden with her parents in 1866 and arrived in this country on July 4th of that year, shortly after her 8th birthday.
The family first settled in Swede Bend near Boone, Iowa. She was converted as a child in 1866 and was baptized and united with the Baptist church on 3 May 1877.
On Oct. 13, 1880 she was united in marriage to J. A. Lawrence and they made their home in Kiron. Mr. Lawrence was for a number of years editor and publisher of The Kiron News. To this union were born four children, all having preceded her in death, an infant daughter, a young son, her son Fred Lawrence, and her husband, A. J. Lawrence, who passed away on 2 Sept 1912, at Denver, Colo. where they resided at that time. Her son, P. C. Lawrence, also editor of The Kiron News some years, died in Service in France in December of 1918. The last twenty eight years she has made her home in Kiron.
For the past seven months she has been in poor health, although able to be up and around most of the time up until Thursday afternoon, Nov. 14th, when she suffered a paralytic stroke. She passed on to be with her Lord on Saturday morning. Nov. 16th, 1940, at 10 o'clock. She was at her death 82 years, 5 months and 6 days.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Katheryn Lawrence, her four grandsons, Kenneth, Clifton, Clarence and Calvin Lawrence all of Houston, Texas,, and a niece, Mrs. Inez Bushberger of Lake George, Colo. She also leaves a host of friends here in Kiron as well as in Colorado, and in Omaha where she resided a number of years after her marriage, her husband being a carpenter while there.
Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon (Tuesday ) at 2 o'clock, from the Kiron Baptist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. W. Johnson, Special singing was rendered by Lilllian Engberg and Mrs. Dorothy Clauson in "The Old Rugged Cross" and Kenneth Johnson and Harry Lindstrom in "Jesus Leads". Mrs. Dorothy Clauson and Mrs. Bryan Weberg at the piano.
The Pallbearers were Adolph Salmonson, S. M. Sjogren, Oscar C. Johnson, C. S. Johnson, Victor H. Youngquist and Bert Lindstrom. Interment was made in the Kiron cemetery.
Relatives coming from a distance were three nephews, Kenneth, Clifton and Clarence Lawrence of Houston, Texas.

 

 

The Lawrence family had a bicycle shop and published the newspaper in the early days of Kiron. 
Clifton  Lawrence was born on 14 August 1883 in Stockholm township, Crawford county, Iowa. On 1 June 1900 he was a Photographer in Kiron, Crawford county, Iowa. He was recorded in June 1900 census in Kiron, Crawford county, Iowa on 1 June 1900 In 1910 Clifton was a newspaper editor and printer in Kiron, Crawford county, Iowa. He was recorded in the 1910 census in Kiron, Crawford county, Iowa in 1910. He was living in 1910 in Main Street, Kiron, Iowa. Clifton moved to Houston, Harris county, Texas about 1911 from Kiron, Iowa. He served in the military in 1918 in WW I - France. He died in December 1918 at the age of 35 in WW I.   Parents: John Arthur Lawrence-3049 and Oliva (Ollie) Swanson-3046.

He was buried about 21 March 1905 in Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa

1902 "Perhaps the smallest newspaper that is entered through the United States mails as second-class mailer is the Kiron News, a six by ten sheet that is brightly edited by Fred A. Lawrence an eleven year old boy. Fred gets out a bright newsy little paper. The price is fifteen cents a year and it is worth twice as much. If he perseveres Fred will some day make as good a newspaper man as there is to be found."

May 30, 1935 Pella, Iowa "Fred Lawrence, who attended college here and eared  a part of his way working part time at the Chronicle office, died at his home in Kiron."   The transcription reads as though it's a recap of old issues of the Chronicle.

The history of the Baptist church reads as though Fred lived longer than 1905  "It will be pointed out at this time that several members of the church have gone out into Christian service. The pastors of the church have always been on the alert to guide young people into Christian service. The following have left the community into Christian service: Paul Johnson, S. A. Nelson, Fred Lawrence, Joseph Swanson, Sullivan Waldemar, Lena (Engberg) Fowle, Emily Swanson, Alice (Sandberg) Nordlander, and N. Florence Johnson. At the present time there are two young men at Bethel Institute training for the Christian ministry, namely, Harris Younquist and John Finstrom. May God continue to call out others into the great field which is white already unto harvest. "

The 1910 census index has Philip as "E.C."  Lawrence, a newspaper publisher, married to Catherine three years, and they have four-month-old Kenneth.

Clarence Arthur Lawrence's death certificate said he was born January 5, 1912 in Houston to Philip Clifton Lawrence and Katherine Elizabeth Schwartz, dying March 1978. 

Strange, the 1920 census of Houston has Cliff 35 a machinist born in Sweden, with Annie 32, Kenneth 10, Clarence 8, Clifton 7, and Calvin 4.

In 1930 Harris County "C.E."  is 45 widowed, with Kenneth 20, Clarence 18, Clifton 17, and Calvin L. 14 - the last three born in Texas.

The death certificate says she was born to George Swartz and Anna Elizabeth Nash August 19, 1884 in Iowa, dying in Houston August 3, 1971, buried Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
