John (Johannes) and Katherine (Weingardt) Loos,   sons John P. Loos

One tree says Johnannes was born May 24, 1863 in the Altai Mountains, Volga, Russia, and married Catharina Margaretha Weigandt there January 29, 1885.

In 1900 Logan County, John, born May 1863 in Russia, has been married 16 years to Kate July 1863, Russia, and she's had six kids.  John P. Dec 1885 Russia, George June 1888 Nebraska, Peter May 1882 William Nov 1884, Harry Dec 1886, and Edwin Sept 1899 - the last four born in Colorado.

John  proved up  a quarter in 6, 6N 49W in 1902.

In 1910 Logan County John is 46, Cathrine 45, Peter 17, William 15, Harry 13, and Edwin 11.

JOHN PHILIP

John P. proved up a quarter,  also in 6, 6N 49W, in 1914.

He registered with a Fleming address, married to Freda.

In 1920 Leroy precinct John is 34, married to Freda, 37, both born in Russia.  They have Herbert W. 9, Della 7, and Jack eight months, all kids born in Colorado.

In 1930 John and Freda have Della L. 17 and Richard J. 11.

In 1940 they have only Richard Jack, 20. Jack Richard Loos is listed in 1940 as "teacher experience" in Logan County.

John 1885-1977 and Freda (Widman) Loos 1882-1985 are buried in Sterling.

HARRY

In 1920, on the same page as John P. and Freda,  Harry is 23, married to Edna, 20, and Edwin 21 is living with them.  All were born in Colorado.

In 1940 Logan County, Harry is 43, Edna 40, sons Richard 12, "Sarry" 6 and  nephew Monty 1.

On the same census page is widowed Pete Loos, 47, and his daughter Laurel 16.

Also on the same page are Ed and Blanche Loos, with sons Bernard 14 and raymond 8.

GEORGE

George 1888-1981 is buried in Sterling

Pauline Holwegner and George "LOSS"  married March 18, 1909, recorded in Logan County.

In 1920 George 31 born in Nebraska and Pauline 32, Russia, are on the same census page as John P. and Harry.  They have Ruth 7 and Evelyn 4, both born in Colorado.

In 1930 Logan County George and Pauline have just the two girls.

PETER


Peter claimed two quarters in section 28 and 29, 6N 52W in 1917.

In 1920 Logan County Peter is 27, "Lotta"  25, "Dorthy" 4, and William 1.

In 1930 Logan County Peter is 37, Letta 36, with Dorothy I. 15, William W. 12, and Laurel 6, all born in Colorado.  School teacher Ella M. Dreier, 25, born in Colorado, is rooming with them.

Peter 1892-1973 and spouses Idaletta M. (Dreier) Loos 1894-1938 and Rosella L (Parker) Loos 1913-1974 are buried in Leroy.

EDWIN

Edwin Loos, 96, of Sterling died Monday, April 10, 1995, in Sterling.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chaney-Walters Funeral Home. The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Chaney-Walters, with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Howard will officiate.
Mr. Loos was born Sept. 1, 1898, in Fleming, the son of John and Katherine Weigandt Loos. He grew up in Fleming, attending school in LeRoy. He married Blanche Anna Royle May 19, 1923, in Holyoke. They farmed in the Fleming-LeRoy area until Mr. Loos retired in the 1970s. They then moved to Sterling, and had lived here since then. Mr. Loos was a member of the LeRoy United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of Sterling Elks Lodge No. 1336, and a member of
Senior Citizens of Sterling. He is survived by sons Bernard and wife Arlene, and Raymond and wife Betty, all of Fleming; five grandchildren and several great- grandchildren. Mr. Loos was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche, in 1985; also by five brothers. Memorial contributions in Mr. Loos' name can be made to the Zion United Church of Christ.
