August and Emil are still farming in Logan County in 1940.

Said by descendants to have sold his homestead in 1917, and moved to Colorado in 1918. However he appeared with Emma and Rosa on the 1910 census of the Leroy Precinct, Logan Co., Colorado, occupation farmer. Worked in silvermine near Denver, Colorado. Attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. Had a small mining claim around Plainview, Colorado. Also, worked in Colorado for the Standard Oil Co., and the Republic Drug Co.
 
Separated from Emma when daughter Rose was about 12. Did not tell second wife about his first. Surname of his second or third wife (probably third) was Sheets.
 
Martin Hedke
 Victor, Colo. -- Services were Sunday at McMillen Mortuary in Victor for Martin I. Hedke, 90, who deied Thursday in his home here. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery at Victor.
 Born in Nebraska, Hedke spent his boyhood on a ranch and then attended the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
 He worked as a mining engineer for the Standard Oil Co. and Republic Drug Co.
 During World War I, Hedke spent time in a German prisoner of war camp.. He helped several American soldiers escape from the camp but was unable to get away himself.
 He was a member of the American Legion.
 Hedke is survived by his wife, the former Mrs. Mildred Sheets, whom he married in Denver in 1952, and three children by a former marriage.
 
Martin married (1) Emma Marie Knobbe, daughter of Andreas Knobbe and Willamina Vandersee, on 11 Apr 1907 in Benkelman, Dundy Co., Colorado. Emma was born on 6 Mar 1890 in Hampton, Hamilton Co., Nebraska. She died on 19 Jul 1963 in Denver, Denver Co., Colorado and was buried on 24 Jul 1963 in Denver, Denver Co., Colorado, Crown Hill.
 
 
Lived with Rose Hildebrand until her death.
