Atchison County Missouri history "In 1852 Jeremiah Barlow came to this county from Shelby county, Indiana and purchased this mill property, immediately setting to work to build a grist-mill, which was greatly needed. A Frenchman by the name of Ephraim Horner did the mill work. The mill was in operation in December 1852, and was quite a paying
institution."

In 1876 Atchison County, Missouri, Ephraim and Mary A. have Ambs F., Sarah , Elmer S. Clara, and John C.

Mary Ann was born Dec 1848 in Holt County Missouri to Jerry M. and Rhoda Peably, and died July 31, 1915 in Atchison County, informant Ephraim Harmon of Phelps City, Missouri.  She was buried in "Millsap Cemetery". # 89573404.  Ephraim   buried in Cozad, Nebraska  # 106779437 is probably not the one - this one has a veterans' marker with service in 1898-1902.

Looking for information on the family of Mary Ann Robbins who was probably born in Ohio circa 1840. She married Ephraim Horner in the Cozad area circa 1859. Any help you can provide would be great. Thanks Tony

"Ephraim Horner died in 1925.  He was ninety-eight years old.  He was a lover of things good and all that loving hands could do was done to make his last days comfortable.  By trade he was a mortar mechanic and built a number of mills in Nemaha county.  He also helped build the Christian church in Brownsville, Nebraska.  Aunt Sarah cared for her father during his final years.... in the last weeks of my mother's life, she returned in her mind to her grandparents' homestead at the edge of the Sandhills, a few miles from the North Platte River in western Nebraska.... her grandmother died in 1949, and her grandfather, Joe Pebley, had passed away in 1939....

At Ulysses, Nebraska, January 29, 1888, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Joseph Pebley to Miss Mae Horner, who was born in Richardson county, this state, a daughter of Ephraim and Mary Anna (Robbins) Horner, both natives of Ohio, though the latter was reared and educated in Missouri, where her marriage occurred and where she died at the age of forty-two years. Epraim Horner, a millwright by trade and vocation, was a young man when he established his residence in Missouri, whence he came to Nebraska and settled in Richardson county in 1887. In 1895, he returned to Missouri, but eventually he returned to Nebraska, and now resides at Syracuse, Otoe county, at the patriarchal age of Ninety-one  year (sic), in 1920. He was a soldier of the Union in the Civil War, throughout the entire course of which he served as a member of the Forty-seventh Missouri Cavalry. Mr. and Mrs. Pebley have five children: Earl J., who resides at Mumper, Garden county, married Miss Clara Johnson and they have four children; Rosa is the wife of Frank Shaw, of Oshkosh, this county; and Harry L., Blanche and Irene remain at home.

Nemaha County Herald, July 26, 1934  "James F. Pebley Died At Syracuse---James F. Pebley, a former resident of the Brownville neighborhood, but who moved to Syracuse a year ago passed away at his home near that place Wednesday evening, July 18. Mr. Pebley had many friends in this community to who his passing brings deep regret.
James Franklin Pebley was born in Holt county, Missouri October 13, 1865 and reached the age of 78 years, 9 months and 5 days. He was united in marriage to Sarah Jane Horner May 13, 1881. To this union nine children were born, one of whom passed away in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and children, Mrs. Rhoda Meredith, Tryon, Neb.; Henry and Tom Pebley of Cozad; Mrs. Bert McClane, Syracuse; Joseph and William Pebley, Syracuse; A. N. Pebley and Mrs. J. Z. Roberts of Brownville. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one brother, Joseph Pebley of Oshkosh, Neb. Mr. Pebley is remembered by many as a good friend and kind neighbor.
Funeral services were held at at the Christian church in Brownville Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. H. Zimmerman of Virginia, Neb. Burial was made in Walnut Grove cemetery.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were his sons, Henry and Tom Pebley of Cozad; his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Meredith of Tryon, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Bert McClane and family of Syracuse; John Horner and family of Otoe; Mrs. Helen Carpenter and Robert Porter, Dunbar; Mrs. C. F. Zook, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Willis Johnson, all of Watson, Mo.; Sam Johnson, Rockport; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Roberts, St. Joseph; Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Knapp, Nemaha; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pebley, Syracuse; C. H. Zimmerman and Miss Berneice Bauher of Virginia, Neb."

In 1880 Nodaway County, Missouri, Ephram Horner is 47, with Mary Ann 40, Sarah Jane 16, Elmer 12, Clarra 10, and John 8.

In 1900 Butler County, Nebraska, Elmer, born Jan 1866 in Wisconsin, married 18 years to Julia, born Nov 1867 in Illinois, have Maggie July 1889, Herman Aug 1891, Earlie March 1893, Mearlie May 1892, and John Mar 1891 - all kids born in Nebraska.

In 1910 Logan County, Colorado, Elmer E. and Julia are 41, with Herman 19, Merle and Earl both 17, and John 15.

In 1910 Otoe County, Nebraska, Ephraim Horner is 74, born Ohio, married 27 years to Anna , 62, Missouri, second marriage for both.   One tree said Ephraim died March 25, 1925 in Cozad, Nebraska.

Elmer E. 1867 -1949 and Julia Ann (McIntosh) Horner 1866-1929 are buried in Fleming, and daughter Maggie May (Horner) Greenamyer 1888-1962 is buried in Sterling.

In 1920 Logan County, Elmer and Julia A. have Earl E. 26, Herman E. 29 and his wife Mary E. 21, born in Colorado, with Gladys M. 4 and Clarence H. 3.

On the same page as Elmer in 1920 are John C. Horner, 24, Nebraska, Kate 22, Nebraska, and Grace I., 2, Colorado.

John C. 1895-1970 and Katherine (Sparhawk) Horner 1897-1962 are buried in Sterling.

Grace Irene Fowler, 91, of Greeley, died July 11, 2009. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Riverside Cemetery, with the Rev. Derek DeToni Hill officiating.
She was born Sept. 5, 1917, to John C. and Katherine G. Horner in Fleming. She graduated from Padroni High School.
On Aug. 1, 1938, she married John "Buck" M. Fowler in Scottsbluff, Neb. On Aug. 1, 2003, they celebrated their
65th wedding anniversary with family and friends at their home in Sterling.  Mrs.  Fowler enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her four children, Ronald Fowler of Greeley, Judy Williamson of Greeley, Betty Workman of Falcon and Barbara Van Hook of Chandler, Ariz.; grandchildren, Derrick, Steven and Ed, Deborah and David, and Lindsay; and eight great grandchildren, Tabbatha, Brittany, Spencer, Kailey, Paige, Sadie, Jacob and Connor.

In 1930 Elmer E. is widowed, living with Herman and Mary in Phillips Count, and their five kids. Gladys 14, Clarence 2, Elsworth 8, Glora 4, and Ralph 2.

Elmer is back in Logan County in 1940, with grandson Elsworth , 18 living with him.

Ellsworth Elmer 1922-1982 is buried in Fleming. 40331040

J.J. Horner, 23, born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, married Sally Bowers, age 22,  born in Stark County, Ohio, Dec 25, 1870 in Richardson County, Nebraska.

In 1880 Falls City, Nebraska, John "Homer"  is 33, born in Pennsylvania, a laborer, with Sarah 28, born in Ohio.

In 1885 Richardson County Nebraska, J.J. Horner, 38, born in Pennsylvania, is a drayman, with Sarah 39, Ohio.  With them are nieces Myrtle Boners 8 and Ella Dice 14 (or 4) , both born in Nebraska.

John is listed in the Falls City 1890 business directory, "transfer"

A.F. Horner, of Syracuse, Nebraska, is listed in the 1896 veterans schedule, service from Pennsylvania.

 John J. timber-claimed  a quarter in 28, 6N 49W in 1895.

In 1900 Falls City, John Horner is an express agent, born March 1847 Pennsylvania, married 30 years to Sarah A., born May 1846 Ohio, have not had kids.  With them is Myrtle E. Bowen (Bowers?), born Sep 1876 Nebraska, a teacher.

1903 Nemaha, Nebraska "Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Rumbaugh and Mr. and Mrs. John Horner are visiting friends in Missouri this week."  "Mrs. John Horner of Omaha, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Rumbaugh, for about three weeks, returned home Saturday."  This might be the John and Luella Horner in 1900 Otoe County, with Elmer May 1894, Richard L. July 1897, and Edith Oct 1899.  

1905 Falls City "Mrs. John Horner continues to be in poor health.  Her many friends hope for her speedy recovery."

FindaGrave # 45186538 has John J. Horner born March 19, 1847, dying March 8, 1902, buried in Silver Creek Cemetery, Richardson County, Nebraska.  And a Sarah Ann Horner 1848-1919.

One tree says Sarah Ann Bowers Horner was born March 3, 1846, and died July 16, 1919 in Falls City, Nebraska.

Henry H. Bowers timber-claimed a quarter in 33, 6N 49W in 1895.

This must be the Henry H. Bowers 1832-1900, dying in Falls City, which one tree says is a brother of Sarah Ann.
