In 1880 Kendall County, William and Eveline have Sarah L. 26, Wm. A. 18, Almeda 13, and Mabel %. 5.

Next household is Peter Cooney, 62 with Amanda 44 and five kids.

Eveline died 1884 and is buried in Doud Cemetery, Kendall County.

William proved up  a quarter in 5, 6N 49W in 1896

1899 Sterling " "Miss S.L. Cooney of the vicinity of Leroy was in the city to-day, the guest of Miss Emma Durst."  Emma later married the widowed Logan County Judge David Smith, who also owned the Republican in 1906 and the Advocate in 1907.

In 1900 Leroy precinct, Logan County, William born Sept 1826 in Pennsylvania, is widowed, and daughter Sarah July 1853 Illinois is with him.

In 1900 Wm. Cooney was excused for cause from jury duty on a murder case in Logan County.

1900 "Miss Mabel Cooney arrived from York, Neb. on the fast mail this morning for a visit with relatives at LeRoy and friends in Sterling.  She is the guest of Miss Emma Durst and THE DEMOCRAT family for a few days."
