Levi Lightfoot

Levi cash-claimed a quarter in 25, 6N 48W in 1890.

He filed for a homestead AND a timber quarter in the same township, but didn't complete it - so he might have given up or sold his claim before completion.

He could likely be the Levi Lightfoot buried in Omaha - March 13, 1818 - Jan 15, 1900 - also on this headstone is Daisy B. Lightfoot 23 Dec 1883 Daughter of Levi and E. F. Lightfoot 11 Mar 1905

The Burlington (Iowa) Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, was organized April 28, 1872, by Alexander H. Smith, President of the Spring Prairie and Nauvoo districts, O. P. Dunham, W. D. Morton and Levi Lightfoot. There were then seven members, namely; O. P. Dunham, High Priest; W. D. Morton, of the Seventy; L. Lightfoot, Elder; O. Owen, Mary A. Morton, Christian Halbick and Ellen Owen.

from Marjorie R. Tracy:
Levi and his family were living in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa in 1880. The only exceptions were daughters Caroline, who was single, working as a dressmaker in La Salle, Illinois, and Inger "Emma Lide" Eliza Lightfoot and husband, Burdette Spencer, who had moved back east and were living in Elmira, New York. Levi was married twice after Susan; he married Sarah A. Holden in Henderson, Illinois, and Edna F. before 1880. In addition to the children mentioned in the letter, he had Georgiana H., Alma, Katie, Frank, Lotta, and Bessie.

1900 Red Cloud, Nebraska " Samuel Lightfoot, who left overland in the middle of the summer for Colorado returned home today."  He had claimed land in Las Animas County, far to the south.

Charles A. Lightfoot, the son born in 1856, was widowed in Iowa, living in Des Moines County in 1885 - and he was in Denver 1906-1908 doing odd jobs.  So he could have come to Colorado about the same time as Levi.
