| For nearly three decades Chester J. Lienhart has been an outstanding citizen
of Nebraska. Born at Akron, Colorado, April 28, 1890, he is the son of C. F. and
Mary J. (Jones) Lienhart. His father, a druggist, and in later years a realtor
and banker, was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, April 29, 1858, and settled
in Kearney County in 1874. He was a leading Democrat, and at one time served as
national committeeman. His death occurred at Hastings, April 3, 1918. His wife,
Mary, was born in Rockford, Illinois, June 8, 1868, of
pioneer Nebraska parentage. She resides at Hastings. Mr. Lienhart, upon his graduation from Minden High School attended the National Institute of Pharmacy. He was enrolled for a time at the University of Nebraska, for the study of medicine, but dropped his enrollment to take up the study of pharmacy. For a number of years Mr. Lienhart was the owner and operator of three drug stores. In the period between 1922 and 1931 he has been president of the Hastings Chevrolet Company, of which he was the organizer. In April, 1926, he shipped a full trainload of Chevrolet cars from the factory at Saint Louis, and before the end of the month had sold them all. The employer of 125 persons, during 1922-30 he sold 6,422 new cars and 10,126 used cars, the total valuation of which was more than $13,000,000. Mr. Lienhart is the organizer, secretary and treasurer of the Great Plains Aircraft Corporation, and secretary-treasurer of the Hastings Loan and Finance Company. He is also secretary-treasurer of the Central Nebraska Golf Association (1931-32 season). On April 15, 1909, he was united in marriage to Ema J. Winter, their marriage having been solemnized at Omaha. Mrs. Lienhart was born at Roseland, August 9, 1889. There are two daughters, Lois Evelyn, born January 2, 1911, who is married to Clyde D. Paul; and Gwendolyn Juanita, born February 23, 1912. Mr. Lienhart is a Democrat, and has served as a member of various committees. He is a member of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the good roads and the new industries committees.. He is also a member of the Nebraska Good Roads Association, the Nebraska State Pharmaceutical Association, and the Young Men's Christian Association. His fraternal organizations include the Modern Woodmen of America, the Knights of Pythias, the United Commercial Travelers, Hastings Lodge No. 159 of the Elks, the D. O. K. K., and the A. M. O. B. Among his favorite sports are golf, hunting, trap shooting and baseball, and he enjoys aviation, reading and travel. His hobby is mechanics. Residence: Hastings.

Mary Jane is in San Diego in 1940, living with son Lloyd 42, an auto parts salesman, and Ella 43. They have Shirley M. 16 and Conrad L. 15.

Maddox, 92, of Newport Beach, Calif., died Saturday, Dec. 2, 1995, at a
nursing home in Newport Beach. Services were Dec. 5 at Lewis Colonial Mortuary Chapel in San Diego with the Rev. George Davis officiating. Burial was in Cypress View Mausoleum. Lewis Colonial/Benbough Mortuary of San Diego was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Maddox was born Jan. 9, 1903, in Norman. She attended high school and college in Hastings. On Jan. 22, 1921, she married Robert L. Maddox in Lincoln. They moved to San Diego from Holdrege. They owned a dry cleaning and laundry. After retiring they lived on a ranch east of San Diego at Campo, Calif. They later moved to Santee, Calif. After her husband's death in 1990, she moved to Huntington Beach, Calif. She was active in auxiliaries of their business operation in San Diego. Survivors are three sons, Dexter A. of Huntington Beach, Rex A. of Alexandria, Va., and Max A. of Noble, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. |

May 25, 1939 Hawarden Iowa had been called to Winner, S. D., by the sudden death of his father, Ralph V. Lienhart. Mr. Lienhart was stricken with a heart attack in a drug store at Winner last Tuesday evening and expired almost immediately, despite the efforts of a physician to save him. He had been assisting in the coaching of a boys' ball club during the evening. Mr. Lienhart was born in Kearney county, Neb., in 1883 and lived later near Chambers, Neb., where his father, John Lienhart, and brother, Ray Lienhart, still reside. He finished his education at Wayne Xormal at Wayne, Xeb,, and for a number of years taught school at Anoka, Xeb., and Burke, S. D. He moved to Winner in 1914 where he has since been engaged in photography. He had been prominent in civic and community affairs at Winner, having served for a number of years on the board of education and several terms on the city council. Funeral services were held at Winner last Thursday. Linda Cunningham posted in 1998 : For the LIENHARTs, Ralph Victor, my grandfather, and his wife Jennie, (died within the last 20 years), lived in Winner until their deaths. Ralph owned a photography studio in Winner. They had three children: Ed, Virginia and my father, Kenneth. ED LIENHART FUNERAL HERE LAST MONDAY Funeral services for Ed Lienhart, 55, of Hawarden who died last Thursday, April 2, were held Monday at the local Methodist Church with Dr. G. S. Bruland officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Alcester, under the direction of Dow Funeral Home. Lienhart died in the Hawarden hospital. He was born May 11, 1914 at Winner, South Dakota. He married the formed Avis Lundgren, March 7, 1942, in Abilene, Texas. They have lived in Hawarden since 1937. He was a former Hawarden and Westfield teacher. For the past eight years he was personnel director of Otis Radio Corporation in Hawarden. He held membership in the American Legion, the Methodist Church, and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Besides his widow he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Russell (Diane) Schoeneman of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Gary (Denice) Ping of Ireton, and Miss Anne Lienhart of Hawarden; his mother, Mrs. Jennie Lienhart of Winner; four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lynn Hiatt of Salt Lake City, Utah; and one brother, Kenneth, of Le Mesa, California. During services, Mrs. Don Hummell was organist and James Squier sang "Abide with Me" and "No Night There." Casket bearers were Carlyle Dirks, Alfred Pulscher, Douglas Dreeszen, Herbert Anderson, Harold Busch, and Charles Koop. Honorary casket bearers, members of the 90th Division, were Roscoe Cox, Gail Smith, E. O. (Bud) Johnson, Sam Leninger, John Melancon, and Wilton Bargar.
