| Vi Rybicka, 85, of Brighton, CO passed away on September 19,
2011 at Platte Valley Medical Center. She was born to William and Anna Brook at their home near Bennett, CO on January 4, 1926, and spent most of her life in the Bennett area. After graduating from Bennett High School in 1942, she attended Colorado State Teachers College (UNC) in Greeley for a year before moving to downtown Denver to work at Bell Telephone Company. While at Bell Telephone she married Courty Rybicka of Bennett on September 14, 1945. She remained in Denver while Courty served in the US Army for one year in Japan during the post-war occupation. After Courty returned from Japan they moved to a wheat farm north of Bennett. In the subsequent years, they were blessed with the births of two children, Roger and Kay. Courty and Vi lived and farmed for the next 60 years before retiring to Brighton in 2007. During those six decades, Vi was a devoted wife while raising her two children and working side by side with Courty at harvest time by driving the wheat trucks. Many a Saturday night, she and Courty could be found playing card games such as pinochle and canasta with their farm neighbors. She was a member of the Living Springs Circle Club for many years. Vi loved to help grade papers for the state spelling bee and enjoyed playing the piano, reading true life mysteries and biographies while savoring the pleasures of anything made of chocolate. She was also known for her melodic whistling ability as well as her beautiful handwriting, which graced the pages of many personal notes, cards and letters. Vi will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by Courty, her husband of 66 years; her children, Roger Rybicka and Kay Annette Hanlon; three grandchildren, Brett (Lori) Hanlon, Jared (Thelma) Hanlon and Colette (Kevin Fletcher) Hanlon; three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Jaden and Troy Hanlon; nephew Rusty Hunt and nieces, Beth Hunt and Pam Jeffers. She is preceded in death by a brother, William Jr. and sister, Dorothy. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 5:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday, September 23, 2011 at 12:00-1:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral at 1:00 p.m., both at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton. Graveside Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Bennett.
