Sonny Wright, Flagler

Sonny Wright was born in the eastern Colorado town of Flagler – located off the I-70 corridor just east of Limon. Sonny was born in 1943.

Sonny was a member of the Country Music Festival of Colorado – a country-based organization and active in the late 1960’s in Colorado. He recorded for Door Knob, a label he formed in partnership with Gene Kennedy who placed a handful of his own recordings on the country charts – all moderate hits. Sonny recorded three nationally charting country singles. Door Knob’s Facebook page exclaims that they have placed over 100 songs on the country chart

THE WEBB KIDS
Sonny married Peggy Sue Webb, sister of Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle – The three sisters are joined by another sibling, Jay Lee Webb who recorded primarily for Decca Records as did all four of the Webb kids. (Their cousin is Patty Loveless). Peggy Sue placed 19 songs on the national country charts. Peggy Sue composed the Loretta Lynn hit “Don’t Come Home A’ Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ On Your Mind)”.
The couple met via Sonny Wright’s fronting Loretta Lynn’s backing band during the 1960’s. Sonny and Peggy Sue toured for a time as a country duo and recorded together as well. The couple tragically lost their daughter when she was shot fatally by her husband.
