F. F. club, an organization composed of the most prominent young ladies of the city, was married to Dr. J. D. Heiney, a well known young man of Kirksville. The nuptial knot was tied by Rev. Martin, pastor of the Presbyterian church of that city, the beautiful and impressive ring ceremony being used. The bride with her uncle, H. C. Squires, has resided in this place for more than a year past, and during her residence here she made a host of friends, whose best wishes will go with her wherever she may go. While the groom is not very well known here it is needless to say that he is a young man of the highest standing and that he is held in the highest esteem in the community where he resides. After the ceremony the happy young couple took the train for Lincoln, Nebraska, where they will spend about a month after which they will go to Jamestown, Virginia, where they will make an extended stay. Those who attended the wedding from this place were Mrs. A. (.'. Duilxuxivv and Miss Tyree Horn, friends of the bride and H. C. Squires, her uncle."

The object of the company is to establish an agricultural experiment station here, and demonstrate the value of the soil when farmed by scientific methods. This is an outgrowth of the agitation for better farming that has followed the holding of the International Congress at Colorado Springs on October 16. Associated with him are Robert Cooley, J. D. Heiny, W. A. Zepf and F. E. Gibson, who will attend the Congress to study its teachings.
A tract of land has been surveyed for a station, and among the experiments that will be tried are: Loosening the sub-soil with dynamite; Plowing twenty inches deep; crops planted side by side cultivated by Campbell system and ordinary methods; demonstrations with manure mulch; subirrigation from wells; tree planting, etc."

John's cousin Elmer E. Heiny claimed a quarter in section 28, 9S 51W in 1915.

Flagler News files date back only to 1915 but it is believed the newspaper was started in 1913 as a Democratic paper to compete for legal publications with the existing weekly paper, the Republican Flagler Progress, a primary source of revenue for early newspapers was pubtishing legal notices regarding homesteads and it is probable that the News was founded to get a share of those legal notices. Founder and first publisher was E.H. Kruchten. He published the paper for a year it to J.D. Heiny, who sold it to H. E. Wetherell, who operated it until 1915 when Will and Sarah Borland bought it . Mr. Borland had worked as a printer in Brush while proving up on a homestead located south of Brush. (Will and Sarah Borland were the parents of Hal Borland, who graduated from Flagler High School in 1918 and became a nationally known journalist, columnist, and author. He is particularly known for his nature writings.)

January 1932, Broadcasting reported that the Missouri State Marketing Bureau had leased the station to its manager, John Heiny, for two years. The lease required Federal Radio Commission approval, in what the magazine called “an unusual license transfer deal”. The Broadcasting report further explained:
Sufficient funds were not available from the state to continue the station's services, the Commission was informed by Paul D.P. Spearman, counsel for the parties to the transfer. Accordingly, an arrangement was made with Capt. Heiny whereby the station will be conducted as before, continuing all its market and other official broadcasts without charge to the state but also selling enough of its time to sponsors of commercial programs to make it self-supporting.

But next month, Broadcasting reported:
WOS Transfer Blocked
STATION WOS, Jefferson City, Mo., will remain under state control and non-commercial with the rejection by Gov. H.S. Caulfield of the proposal that the station be leased to its announcer, John D. Heiny. The proposal to lease the station was made when it was found economies had to be effected in operation because of decreased appropriations. (February 15, 1932)
