Kit Carson County Pioneers:

George M. and Cora E. VanPatten, 8 South 51 West

Geroge was the son of William Veeder VanPatten born 1846 and Isabella Jane Wallace born 1851.
Cora was the daughter of Elias Mitchell Oryall 1847-1925 and Parryzade Tatro 1853-1921.
Paryzade is buried in Clinton, Henry County, Missouri " Wife of Shadrach Doty and Elias "Edward" Mitchell Oryall"

"Paryzade and Elias divorced after 1 son & 2 daughters. He had two sons and one daughter by Nelly. Children were: Eli Joseph, Viola Mae Oryall, Cora Etta Deal Oryall Van Patten. then Maie Bertha Oryall Dickinson McLaughlin, Melvin Oryall and Norman Oryall."

In 1880 Pierce County, Wisconsin, Pauline Oryall 26 - married but no spouse. Eli is 10,Viola8, and Cora 6.

In 1900 Fillmore County, Nebraska, George is farming, born March 1871 in Illinois, with Cora December 1873 Wisconsin, John March 1894 and Viola August 1895 in Nebraska.

Viola VanPatten was in the 1907 second grade class at the Sutton, Nebraska school.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, George is farming, 41, born in Illinois, Cora 38 in Wisconsin. They're married sixteen years. Cora has had six kids, four living. John L. 16, Viola M. 14, and George M. 4 were born in Nebraska, Isabella A. 2 in Colorado.

John is buried in Flagler 1894-1910 # 133005380.

George claimed a quarter in section 14, 8S 51W in 1912.

Thomas Bowen proved up a quarter in 3, 9S 51W in 1911.
In December 1912 Thomas filed suit against Cora and George M. VanPatten for a land sale in 8S 51W, section 114.

In 1920 St. Claire County, Missouri, George is farming, 51, Cora E. 46, Geroge M. 13, and Isabel 11.

George Millard Van Patten passed away at his home in Clinton Mo. Feb. 8th 1938 at 3:00am. He was born near Brimfield IL Peoria County. March 10th, 1866. At the time of his death he was 71yrs 10 months 17 days old. He was married to Cora Etta Deal Oryall Nov 14th 1893, at York NE
To this union was born six children, two boys and one girl preceded him in death. The other children are: Mrs. Viola Jennings, Collins,Mo., George Van Patten, Cooksville Mo. Mrs. Isabella Dodson, Clinton Mo. Also 10 grandchildren. He also leaves a loving companion, two sisters and three brothers, a host of friends to mourn his passing. Mr. Van Patten had been in ailing health for some time yet the end came unexpectedly.
He lived in or near Collins for a number of years before moving to Clinton. where he had many neighbors and friends who will be sad at his passing. He had a kind and cheerful disposition and was a friend to all and always had a smile and a friendly greeting for all.

The funeral was conducted at the United Brethen Church by the pastor Rev.Manion.
The body was tenderly laid to rest in Robinson Cemetery, Collins Mo.

GEORGE

In 1930 St. Clair County, Missouri, George is 24 a raliroad station agent, with Mildred 18 and newborn Geore.

In 1940 Laclede County, George is 34, Mildred 28, George L. 10and Patsy A. 4.

George N. VanPatten 1906-1998 is buried in Laclede County, Missouri # 3466910.

George Van Patten 37, died in Mexico on April 19, 1967>

Patsy Van Patten, 18, married Stanley K. Reed on August 23, 1953 in Barry County, Missouri.

VIOLA

Viola Maude Jennings was born August 15, 1895, dying June 10, 1981.
She's buried in St. Clair County # 20102720, with Elmer Elijah Jennings 1895-1917.

ISABELLE

Isabelle Jane Van Patten married Orville Eugene Dodson 19-6-1974.
She's buried in Franklin County, Kansas # 52397628.
"Isabella Zade Van Patten Dodson was born April 13, 1908 in Flagler Colorado, the youngest daughter of George Millard Van Patten and Cora Etta Oryall Van Patten. She married Orville Eugene Dodson in 1928 in Lowry City Missouri. Her husband Orville preceded her in death in 1974 as did her son Russell Eugene (Elizabeth Munson) Dodson in 1982 and her daughter, Russie June Dodson Harris in 2000, one grandchild, David Michael Harris in 1956 and one great grandchild, Michelle April Harris in 1884. She is survived by three sons, George Henry (Carol) Dodson of Sullivan Missouri, and Elmer Leroy and Robert Lee (Pam) Dodson of Ottawa Kansas and one daughter, Carmenita Ann Dodson Madrid of Kansas City Missouri as well as 22 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren."


CORA'S FATHER JOSEPH ORYALL

Fillmore County, Nebraska: Akins, Woodbury D., 29, born in Illinois, son of Akins, Samuel and Drummond, Mary, married Oryall, Carrie, 21, born in Wisconsin to Oryall, Joseph and Nolan, Maria, on Nov 18, 1880.

" Maria died in Fond du Lac and Joseph went to live with his son Frank in Stevens Point, WI. Joseph died in 1901 and his body was brought to Green Bay for burial."

" Eli Joseph Oryall died at his home on the corner of Lincoln and Fifth streets, Clinton, Missouri, at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, April 28th, 1932 with Bright's Disease. He had been in poor health for several years but suffered intensely since March 15, being confined to his bed since that time. He was born in Brown county, Wisconsin, May 2, 1870, and moved with his parents to Nebraska, September 13, 1883. He was educated there and attended high school. He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Mae Keehler (note: correct spelling is Elizabeth May Kuehler), in Fillmore county, Nebraska, July 11, 1900. They lived on a farm there for a number of y ears, coming to Henry county in 1914 where they lived on a farm belonging to his mother, the late Mrs. Paryzad Doty, for six years. They then moved to a farm one-half mile south of Thrush. They came to Clinton in 1922 and the daughters bought a home on the corner of Lincoln and Fifth streets where they still reside. Thirteen children were given to this union. Twelve of them are left to comfort their mother, as follows: Mrs. Walter Hawkins, east of Clinton; Lewis Oryall, north of Clinton; Mrs. Frank Johns, West Allen street, Clinton; Edgar, Clifford, Nelson, Keith, and Barbara Pauline also live in Clinton. There are eight grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. George VanPatten, of Brownington, and Miss Viola Oryall, San Francisco, Calif. Deceased had been a Knight of Pythias and also belonged to Royal Hollanders when he resided in Nebraska. He was of French descent and liked the out of doors and always raised an excellent garden. Funeral services were conducted at his late home Friday afternoon. The burial was in Englewood cemetery by the side of his mother. "
