" After nearly 89 years of activity in the work of this world and nearly as long a service in the church which fits for the work of the next, Aaron Putnam, one of our oldest residents, passed away at his home Tuesday morning, December 15th, at 10 a.m. Sick but one week, having taken a severe cold, he passed away but with little pain when his weakened body at last gave up the fight.
Mr. Putnam was born at Albany, New York, March 26th, 1820. In 1841 he was married to Miss Sarah E. Tinny at Glen Falls, New York. Twelve children were born to this union, seven of whom are still living. There are 41 grandchildren. Sarah, his wife, died the 26th of Aug, 1898. He was then remarried to Mrs. Anna Walters in 1899. She survives. Grandpa Putnam, as everybody called him, had been a staunch supporter of the Baptist Church of our City [Fairbury], having been one of its faithful deacons for years. The remains were taken to Cropsey Cemetery for interment after the funeral services at the Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, the 17th of December, the Reverend C S Burns officiating.
