1939 Albuquerque "One person remained in a critical condition Sunday
in the St. Joseph's Hospital, suffering injuries received in an accident
near Los Lunas Saturday which took two lives. Two other persons injured
in the accident were reported improving. Ralph Pelle, 24, of 228 West Gold,
was still unconscious Sunday evening."

He was born to Joseph and Hattie Ulbrich Marelon, the family moved to Arvada CO, where he graduated from High School. He was active in sports and band playing the E-flat alto and B flat Soprano saxophone. He then attended Barns Business College and Denver University where he took business courses.
He went to work for Peter Kiewit Sons Inc in Denver doing hyway construction, and becoming a general superintendent with the company.
In the late 1940's he continued his work with runways and taxiways for the B-36 bombers. He continued with the company in hyway construction and also supervised the installation of an irrigation system for the Padock Ranch near Sheridan WY. The Ranch was owned by Homer Scott, a Perter Keiwit vice president. Herbert especially enjoyed flying in the corporate Lear jet. He worked 35 years for the Kiewitt company retiring in 1974.
He was married to Evelyn A. Pelle and a son Thomas was born to this union. On September8,1950 he married Alwaynne E Waldman at the home of her father Charlie Waldman in Sturgis SD. A daughter was born to this union. Shortly after they were married the couple purchased a home in Rapid City, where he had lived until entering the nursing home a few weeks ago.
Herbert was a hard working and always enjoyed helping family and friends.He loved hunting and fishing, especially fishing in Big Thompson River in Colorado.
He was a member and very active in ST Andrew's Episcopal Church, a life member of Elks Lodge NO 1187 Rapid City SD, the Society of Black Hills Pioneers, Canyon Lake Senior Citizens Center and Minnelusahan Senior Center.
Survivors include a daughter in law, Elke Martelon of Littleton CO; a son in law Dean Lichty or Westbook MN: three grandaughters Joan Dunn and her husband Dennis of Denver CO, Catherine and Monica Martelon, both of Westminster CO.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alwynne in 1995; a daughter Deborah Lichty in 1985: a son Thomas Martelon in 1998 and three brothers and a sister."
