September 12, 1913 "Roy Dixon, 25 years old and R. H. Payne,
fifty, were caught between a switching engine and a
freight car in the Santa Fe yards and terribly crushed.
Both died instantly.
"Blame for the accident in which Roy Dixon and R. H. Payne lost their lives was placed by the coroner’s jury on the Santa F 6 railroad, which employed the men. The verdict stated the railroad neglected to notify the switching crew of the presence of a string of empty freight cars on the repair track.:
