Kit Carson County Pioneers:

Jonas Longstrom, Peter O. and Sarah (Strom) Longstrom , 8 South 51 West


One researcher wrote "Jonas and Per-Olof Långström from Ljusnedal, Tännäs community in Jämtland county."
"Tännäs parish, at a legal change says that Jonas was born on 14/8 1865, the National Archives says 14/8 1862 and emigrated on 4/3 1901 to America.
Per Olof b. 6/11 1869."

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Jonas is 44, a farm laborer, living alone, immigrating in 1901, naturalized.

Jonas claimed a quarter in section 13, 8S 51W in 1912.

In 1920 Flagler, Jonas Longstrom is 54, born in Sweden a street laborer, immigrating in 1901, living alone.

He's still there in 1930, still living alone.

Jonas is buried in the Flagler Cemetery.

SARAH's FAMILY

In 1875 Goodhue County, Minnesota, Sarah M. is newborn, with Christian S. 46, Karin L. 39, CHristian C> 11, and PeterC. 7, all born in Sweden. Jane L was born in Iowa, and Sarah M. in Minnesota.

"Sigre" Strom, daughter of Olveslian and Kari Strom, married Peder Longstrom on Feb 18, 1895 in Madison, Lake County, South Dakota.

Peter O. Longstrom and Sara Maria Strom had Clara Melvina on August 17, 1898 in Lake County, South Dakota.

In 1900 Lake County, Peter O. is 30, Sarah 25, Martin C. 5, and Clara A. 1.

They're in Kit Carson County in 1910, Peter O. "Lingstone" 39, Sarah M. 34, Martin C. 14, Clara 11, and Alma E. 5.

Peter claimed a quarter in section 11, 8S 51W, a month after Jonas' claim, in 1912.

In 1920 Kit Carson County, Peter is 50, born in Sweden, Sarah M. 46 in Minnesota, and Alma E. 15 in South Dakota.

In 1930 Flagler, Peter is a railroad laborer, 60, with Sarah M. 55.

In 1940, Peter and Sarah are in Lamar, Colorado, no occupations.

They're next to R. Frank 42 and Alma 35 Stutzman, with Alice M. 16 and Frances 7, both born in Colorado.

MARTIN

Martin was born March 22, 1895, and baptised at St. Peter's Lutheran CVhurch in Madison, South Dakota.

He registered for WWI in Kit Carson County, born May 22, 1895.

Martin embarked from Hoboken, New Jersey on September 15, 1918 on the Pocahontas.

Martin C. Longstrom, dying October 2, 1918, is buried in Arlington National # 57192771, "Privgate , Camp McArthur Med Repl Unit 41l"

"Disease hat resulted in the death of six Colorado boys, according to the casualty lists made public by the war department Nov. 12. The lists include Lieut. Joseph W. Delalamo, Denver; Ernest Mapes, Pueblo; James H. Deeter, Beibert; Dewey C. W. Farr, Flagler; Homer Loftin, Delta, and Martin C. Langstrom, Flagler.
Albert N. Prosser, Denver, has been killed in action, while Sergt. Claude L. Stine, Lafayette, and Corp. Hobart Edwards, Craig, are dead of wounds received in action. "

CLARA

Clara M. Longstrom and Sigfrid L. Larson married in Kit Carson County on May 8, 1917.

In 1920 Lamar, Sigfrid is managing a garage, 29, with Clara 21. His uncle Edwin 46 born in Minnesota is with them.


Clara 1898-1971 is buried in Lamar, Colorado # 65722353, with Sigfrid L. Larson 1890-1962.

ALMA

1907 La Junta, Colorado "A telegram received last Saturday announced the serious illness of John Stutzman, of Flagler. Colo. His brother-in-laws, Christ Rich and Edward Rich left the following morning for that place."

"Mr. Zendner left for Cambridge, Neb., last week to attend the Mennonite conference. On the way he will visit his brother-in-law, Mr. Stutzman, who lives near Flagler. Colo., and who at present is very I sick."

In 1930 Prowers County, Colorado, Frank Stutzman is 32, born in Kansas, Alma 25, and Alice 6.

In 1940 Lamar, Frank is a garage mechanic, 42, Alma 35, Alice M. 16, and Frances 7.

Alma E. Stutzman 1904-1963 is buried in Lamar, Colorado # 65743355, wtih R. Frank Stutzman 18971958.

Alice was born September 25, 1923 in Lamar to Roy F. Stutzman and ALma E. Langstrom, dying September 1990 as Alice M. Gorman.
She's buried in Lamar # 6587775, with Charles Gorman 1919-1993.

" Alice is married to Charles Gorman and they have children LeAnn and Leland.

Frances is married to Ferril W. Davidson and has children Randy, Rodney and Suzie."
