George W. Johnston and Pauline A. Warren married in Mercer County, Illinois on Feb 15, 1868.

In 1870 Adams County Iowa, George W. Johnston is 22, Paulina A. Johnston 17, and William Johnston 1.

In 1880 Adams County, Geo. W. Johnston is 32, Paulina A. Johnston 28 William Johnston 11, Edgar Johnston 8, Elnora Johnston 5, and James Johnston 2.

November 1915 Corning, Iowa "
Dale Rimby left last week for Flagler, Colorado. He will visit en route at Stockton, Kans., for a time. Mrs. Rimby accompanied her brother C. E. Johnston, on a trip to Colorado some days ago. They went by the auto route. Their father lives near Flagler and they will remain there for an extended visit. Dale expects to join his wife in the west."

January 1917, Corning, Iowa
"Mr. and Mrs. Dole Rimby returned home Saturday from an extended visit in the west. Mr. Rimby spent the time in Rooks county, Kansas, and Mrs. Rimby was at the home of her father, G. W. Johnston at Flagler, Colo., assisting in the care of the old gentleman, who is suffering from a stroke of paralysis which he had about a year ago. "

Corning, Iowa, March 1917
"Mrs. Dale Rimby of Corning and Mrs. A. L. Hickman of Mt. Etna vicinity received a message Sunday stating that their father, George W. Johnston of Flagler, Colo., had passed away that day from paralysis, with which he had been suffering over two years. The funeral was held Wednesday in his home town and interment was made there also.
Deceased gentleman was an old resident of this county, residing for many years near Mt. Etna, leaving here in 1905. He was born June 1, 1848, near Monmouth, Illinois, and was aged 68 years, 9 months and 18 days, residing in the vicinity of his birth until 1867, when, with his parents, he removed to this county. The following year he returned to Illinois where he went to claim his promised bride, Miss Paulina A. Warren. They were married February 15, 1868, at Sunbeam, and immediately came to this county and purchased a farm in Washington township, which was the home for many years. Seven children were born to them, two dying in infancy, and a married son, C. E. Johnston of Flagler, died May 13, 1916. The remaining children are W. W. Johnston of Stockton, Kans.; James Johnston of Denton, Mont; Mrs. A. L. Hickman of Mt. Etna and Mrs. Dale Rimby of this city. The wife and mother died May 13, 1901. Mr. Johnston was remarried in September, 1903, to Mrs. Phebe L. Moore of Corning, and lived here until m the autumn of 1905, when they removed to Stockton, Kansas, living there until 1909, then went to their ranch home near Flagler, Colo., living there until a few years ago, when they removed into the town of Flagler. Two years ago Mr. Johnston had a stroke of paralysis."

So is Phebe Tony 1866-1929, per # 27185315. Phebe Johnston, 63, had married Jim Toney on March 21, 1929 in Kit Carson County.

James Toney, age 49, of Flagler had married Mrs. Sarah Avery 47, also of Flagler, on 4/2/1923 in Flagler. They divorced in Kit Carson County in 1927.

"Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Johnston, of Flagler, Colo., went to St. Joe, last Wednesday, after a visit here. We understand one of the parties is being treated for a cancer."

Elnora is buried in Adams County, # 138797146, "Nora F. Hickman, daughter of G. W. and Pauline Johnston, was born in Adams County on March 7, 1876 and passed away at Corning on November 17, 1959, at the age of 83years, 8 months and 11 days having lived her entire life in Adams County. On December 23, 1897, she was united in marriage to Albert L. Hickman. To this union 3 children were born, Ruth, Ruby and Ralph. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1940 and the daughter, Ruth in 1900. She is survived by daughter and husband, Ruby & Lloyd Duncan; a son, and wife, Ralph & Nona Hickman; 3 grandchildren, Edwin Duncan & wife, Mary, Carolee Olds & husb Joseph; and Ralph Hickman, Jr.; 2 great granddaughters, Jolene & Janice Duncan; a sister, Mrs Nettie Rimby of Salina, KS. Mrs Hickman was a long time member of the Methodist church. She had maintained her own home in Mt. Etna until Jan 1959, when she went to live with her daughter & husband. Hers was a friendly nature and she always enjoyed visiting with relaatives & friends. Services were held Sat Nov 21st from the Roland Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Adams officiating. Interment was in Forest Hill cemetery."

James Johnston, born in Eureka, Iowa, married Martha B. Ellenwood on February 7, 1900 in Adams County.

Jim Johnston is in Adams County, Iowa in 1900, 22, married to Blanche 14.

CHARLES

Charles applied for an invalid pension on November 2, 1899 in Iowa, and Elva applied for a widows's pension on August 10, 1918, for service in L., 20th Kansas.

In 1900 Adams County, Iowa, Charley E. Johnston is working for Samuel 33 and Jessie Powell, 31.

Charles E. Johnston, son of Palina Warren and George W. Johnston, married Asael West on August 23, 1900 in Creston, Union County, Iowa.
Asael was 21, born in Iowa to James West and Margaret Black.

Asael was in Adams County, Iowa in 1900, 20, with James H. 71 and Margret West 57.

James H. West 1828-1909 is buried in Flagler # 15793671, with Margaret J. Black West 1842-1935, # 15793704.

Charles E. Johnston and Asael E. West had Guss Johnston on November 17, 1901 in Quincy Township, Adams County.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Charles E. Johnston is farming, 38, married ten years to Elva A. 32 (Her second marriage) She's had two kids, one living. Gutera L. 8. All were born in Iowa.

July 12, 1916 Corning
"Mrs. Dale Rimby last week received word that Clement Leonard Johnston, the two-year-old on of Mrs. C. E. Johnston, of Flagler, Colo., had died on the Fourth of July, the funeral was held next day. The child's father died not long since, a notice appearing in this paper at the time. He was a brother of Mrs. Rimby. This second death in the family within few weeks os a severe blow. Beside the mother there is now left in the home two small boys and the grandmother."

September 1943 Montrose Missouri " Mrs. Mary Johnston, who was nearly 95 years old, was buried Sunday with funeral services being held at her home, three miles west of Montrose. Mrs. Johnston had lived in this area since she was brought here as a bride 74 years ago. Mrs. Johnston died September 24, after a few months illness at the age of 94 years, 11 months and four days.
Mary A. Wilson was born October 20, 1848, at Trenton, New Jersey. With her parents she moved ...to tordova, KiMieftt Johnston, Montrose: Albert Sidney Johnston. St. Louis, Mrs. Nettie y. Anders, Ft. Scott, Kansas, L. R. Johnston, Sweet Springs; Barney Johnston, Montana; two daughters, cei.'.3 and Estella, of the home. She leaves three sisters: Mrs. Jose Marshall, Cordova, Illinois; Mrs. Emma Lo Woodward, Minatare, and Mrs. cess noisiein, Chicago, Illinois. Also surviving are five grandchildren and ?? great-grandchildren."
