Silas E. and Mary (Hart) Jewell, 8 South 51 West




In Knox County, Nebraska in 1900, S. E. is 38, Mary J. 36, Bertha M. 16, Iola M. 7, Vida V. 5, and Ruth 2.

In 1910 Knox County, Silas E. is 48, Mary J. 47, Vida V. 15, Ruth E. 12, Mina C. 9, Vernice and Vernon both 3.

Silas had claimed a quarter in section 27, 8S 51W in 1917.

In 1920 Kit Carson County, Silas is farming, 58, with Mary 56, both born in Illinois. Minnie 19, Vernon E 15, and Vernie E. 13 were born in Nebrasska.

May 1930 Castle Rock "S. E. Jewell of Simla, Colorado, was a visitor at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. G. Robb Sunday."

March 12, 1943 Castle Rock "Mary Jane Hart was born at Peoria, Illinois on December 27, 1862. She grew to young womanhood iu the State of Nebraska and was united in marriage to Silas E. Jewell on November 1st, 1883, at Brock, Nebraska. Nine children wereborn to this union, three of whom preceeded her in death. The Jewells first came to Denver, Colorado, some fifty-five years ago. They took up a homestead at Flagler, Colo., in 1909 and lived there for a number of years. In l922, they moved to Canon City, where they have lived most of the time with the exception of a year spent in Greeley and some three years spent in California. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November first of last year.
About the first of the year, Mrs. Jewell came to stay for a while with her daughter, Mrs. J. G. Robb, and family at Castle Rock, on account of failing health and in order that Mrs. Robb could care for her. Her condition became more serious and she was taken to St. Luke's hospital in Denver where she underwent a major operation. Here everything posslble was done to restore her health. She passed away on March 2nd, 1943, at her home in Canon City. She was laid to rest in Lincoln Park Cemetery, at Canon City, on March 4th.
Mrs. Jewell had always taken part in church work and was a member of the Methodist Church at Canon City.
Besides her husband, Mr. S. E. Jewell, she leaves to mourn her passing: Mrs. J. G. Robb, of Castle Rock; Mrs. A. O. Miley, of Genoa, Colo.; Mrs. C. L. Martin, of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Vida Harrison, of Hebron, Nebraska; Mr. Vernon Jewell, of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. I. J. Wallace, of Pueblo, Colo. Three brothers, G . O. Hart, of Canon City: S. B. Hart, of Lincoln, Nebr.; and Robert J. Hart, of Lincoln, Nebraska. There also remain many grand children and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the M . E . Church in Canon City, with Chaplain Edwards, pastor, officiating. Arrangements were made by tho Hart Mortuary. A host of friends extend sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives."

Silas 1861-1947 died in Morgan County, Colorado, buried in Canon City # 27074517, with Mary Jane Hart Jewell 1862-1943 # 27074582.

In 1920 Hebron Nebraska, Vida V. is 25, married to Peter J. Harrison 28.


Vida, 44 and Bonnie Jean 19 are in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1940.

She's buried in Thayer COunty 1895-1993 # 29099237, with Peter Harrison 1891-1935.

MINA

Mina C. Jewell, 21, married Bernard Gilman on September 22, 1924 in Cripple Creek.

Mina is buried in Greeley 1900-1926 # 65221758>

Bernard Gilman married Ruth Fleming, 18, on July 9, 1929 in Fort Collins.
They're in Greeley in 1930.
They divorced in Greeley in 1938.

Bernard D. Gilman and Ruth E. Armeling married in Kiowa, Colorado on June 18, 1938.

They're in the Baca County, Colorado census in 1940, and when registering for WWII he lived in Springfield, reference Mrs. Ruth Gilman of Denver.

Bernard D. Gilman, born Nov 13, 1903, died May 18, 1999, last residence Hawaii.

His obituary mentioned wife Ruth, children Jewell Hinerman, Geneva Shen and Janet Shaw, sibling Neva Lucke.

Ruth Elizabeth Gilman, born Marh 13, 1916 in Basin, Wyoming to Carl and Katherine Armeling, married Bernard Gilman, children Geneva Shen and Janet Shaw.
Janet Gilman was attending Colorado State University in 1961.


Ruth was in Pueblo in 1943, married to Willis E. Roberts.

"Ruth M. (Fleming)(Roberts)Robinson, 104, born Jan. 12, 1911, passed away May 13, 2015. Ruth M. Robinson She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold. Ruth is survived by her son, William (Kay) Roberts; grandchildren, Janis Roberts (Scott) Stoddard and Bill (Christine) Roberts; good friends, Bruce and Sheila Wagner and LoriAnne Hardesty. Ruth was a school teacher and business woman. She was very generous and believed in giving back to her community. Memorial service, 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at George McCarthy Historic Chapel, with reception immediately following the service. Under the direction of George McCarthy Funeral Home.

VERNICE

Vernice E. is in Canon City in 1940, married to Finley J. Wallace, both 32, with Patricia J. 2 and Finley J. 1.
She's buried in Canon CIty # 66330053.
"Vernice Wallace Smith, 92, of Aurora died July 19, 1999. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Montgomery and Steward Family Chapel in Pueblo, with burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City. Mrs. Smith was born in Weigand, Neb., on Aug. 15, 1906. She married Finley Wallace, 1936, and Harlan Smith, 1978. She was a business teacher for Central High School in Pueblo. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include sons Finley Wallace of Grand Junction and Vernon Wallace of Littleton; daughter Enid Miller of Highlands Ranch; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. "

RUTH

James Gilbert Robb, 20, married Ruth Eliot Jewell on June 20, 1918 in Kit Carson County.

VERNON

April 1936 Castle Rock "Little Jean Jewell, daughter of Mrs. V. E. Jewell, came down with an attack of scarlet fever this week. The Jewells came here from Fort Morgan a couple of weeks ago and are staying at the home of Prof. and Mrs. Robb, while Mr. Jewell is undergoing treatment at St. Luke's hospital in Denver. Owing to this outburst of scarlet fever in their home the Robbs have moved into a cabin at Rands cottage camp where they will live until tho danger of further spread of the disease is over. Prof. Robb and little Jewell Robb stayed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Triplett on Wedncaeday night."

Vernon and Elizabeth are in Denver in 1920, both 32 with Gladys 10 and Jean 8.
He died in Riverside County, California on January 1, 1981, born August 15, 1906 in Nebraska.

Gladys Cain and Leroy R. Cain are living in Prosser, Washington in the 1994-2002 time.
Mabel E. Jewell, 93, died in Yakima, Washington on December 5, 2000.
