SIMON

"Simon H. Rumming, an early-day resident of Kit Carson County, Colorado. Born in England in 1854, Rumming came to Colorado in 1873, where he worked as a cowboy for a number of local ranchers, both with cattle and horses. He later established his own ranch in the county. Not much biographical information is found in this document, although he does relate the excitement in the area that surrounded the last Indian raid in Kansas, when a mixed band of Indians under the leadership of the Cheyenne chief Morning Star (also known as Dull Knife), broke out of their reservation area in Oklahoma and attempted to travel to Canada. He also describes the "Happy Home Colony" of B.F. Odell that was established around 1898, which appears to have been an early "free love" colony that did not last long in the region."

Simeon claimed a tract in sections 34, 8S 50W and 3, 9S 50W in 1890, and another in the same sections in 1891
