JAMES

James claimed a quarter in section 22, 8S 50W in 1894, and another in 1901.

He's a stock raiser in 1900 Kit Carson County, born March 1866 in Illinois, and has a boarder, laborer Austin H. Tuttle17 born in Canada.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, James is farming, single, 53, born in Illinois. His father was born in New Jersey, mother in Virginia.

James claimed another 40 acres in section 21 in 1911.

James died May 1, 1928 in Flagler, and is buried in Madison County # 28815592.


JOHN

John Howell and Alice Love married Dec. 3, 1888 Winterset, Madison, Iowa.

John claimed 160 acres in section 27, 8S 50W in 1894, and another in 1895.

In 1900 Madison County, John born June 1866 in Illinois, is farming , with Alice July 1869 Iowa. Gladys Oct 1899 and Grace Sept 1893 were both born in Colorado.

In 1910 Warren County, John is 45, with Alice M. 40 "boarders" with Grace 16.

John was in the 1915 census of Indianola, Warren County.

In 1930 Des Moines, Alice is 60, with daughter Grace 36 and Lloyd Severe 35.

In 1940 Alice is 70, widowed, living in Des Moines with daugther Grace Severe 46 and her husdband Dee, 45.

John Charles Howell 1864-1917, dying in Colorado, is buried in Madison County # 28820085, So is Alice 1869-1963 # 28815270.

August 16, 1963 Des Moines " Mrs. Alice M. Howell, 94, of 2206 Thirty-sixth st. died at Iowa Methodist Hospital Thursday after a hip fracture 10 days ago. A resident of Des Moines 44 years, Mrs. Howell was a member of First Methodist Church and Des Moines chapter 89, Order of Eastern Star. Services will be at 1 p. m. Monday at Dunn's Funeral Home, with burial in Mt. Pelier Cemetery, Patterson. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Amos and Mrs. D. L. Severe, both of Des Moines."

GRACE

Grace and D. L. Severe, 24, married July 6, 1918 in Marshall County.

In 1920 Grace, 26, and L. L. 25, are living in Des Moines with his sister Alta Schmidt 23 and her husband William L. 33 and their two kids.

In 1930 Des Moines, Alice is 60, with daughter Grace 36 and Lloyd Severe 35.

In 1940 Alice is 70, widowed, living in Des Moines with daugther Grace Severe 46 and her husdband Dee, 45.

Grace 1893-1990 is buried in Des Moines # 71957812, with D.L. 1895-1982.

GLADYS

Gladys Howell, 35, born at Flagler, Colorado, married William S. Amos on Dec 29, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa.

In 1930 Warren County, Iowa, Sherman Amos 58, and Gladys is 40.

In 1935 Warren County, Amos, Gladys, of Indianola, IA, born Oct 26, 1889 in Colorado, to John Howell and Alice Love, was assessed $2 for the old age pension fund.
So was Amos, Sherman W. of Indianola, born Dec 7, 1871 in Iowa to James Amos and ?? Stephens.

They're still in Warren County in 1940

William Sherman Amos 1871-1958 is buried in Warren County # 27996452.
His first wife Lillian Mary (Woods) Amos 1873-1921 is buried there .

Gladys has a stone there, too 1899-19.. # 27996441.

1962 Des Moines "Mrs. Gladys Amos, 3017 Sheridan ave., will be hostess to the D. S. C. Club at 8 p. m. Tuesday. The speaker will be Mir Sadjadi, a Drake University student from Tehran, Iran, who will discuss his homeland. "
