William and Stella (Carson) Burnett, Alice and Ruth Burnett , Vona



William H. Burnett and Mary B. Vaughn married in Carroll County, Illinois on May 26, 1857.
William H. Burnett, (b. 1834), resident of Cedar township from 1877 to 1888, was a native of New Brunswick and a cousin of George Spragg. During his residence in Illinois he married Mary Vaughn and soon afterward located in Buchanan county, Iowa. In 1877, after a short residence in Greene county he bought of Mrs. Rachel Hartwell the n 1/2se1/4sec. 6, Cedar township, improved and occupied it during the next eleven years, when he located first at Dana, then in Colorado and is now in Missouri. He was a first day advent and during his residence at Sunk Grove secured the maintenance of occasional services there and in the Pinneo schoolhouse in Dover township. His wife died during his residence in Colorado.
His family consisted of nine children. Burpy died at 21 at Sunk Grove; Ida married James Ranisee, has two children and lives in Missouri; George is at Central City, Colo.; Wm. H., an attorney, lives in Colorado; Letitia married Milton E. Burkhalter and lives at Pocahontas; Bertha married Edwin T. Southworth and lives at Laurens; Alice died in 1895; Lula married Wm. Haller and lives in Des Moines. The others are Albert and Ruth. Four of the daughters, Letitia, Bertha, Alice and Ruth, and their brother, William, were teachers in this county and rendered very acceptable service.

In 1880 Pocahontas County, Iowa, W. A. Burnett is 46, Mary B. Burnett 43, Geo. B. Burnett 18, William Burnett 17, Laticia Burnett 15, Bertha Burnett 14, Alice T. Burnett 12, Theodore A. Burnett 12, Ruth M. Burnett 11, and Lucy M. Burnett 8.

In 1885 Pocahontas County, Iowa, Wm. H. Burnett is farming, 56, with Mary R. 48, Wm. 22 is a teacher, and Letitia 20. Bertha is 18, teaching, Theo 17, Theodora 17, Ruth 15, and Lucy 13.

Alice Burnett cash-claimed a quarter in section 33, 8S 48W in 1894.

Alice T. Burnett and John J. Bradley married in Golden, Colorado on June 29, 1904.

RUTH

Ruth M. Burnett proved up a quarter in section 28, 8S 48W in 1895.

April 1907 Canon City "Miss Ruth Burnett probably was fatally injured, two horses were killed outright, and a light spring wagon cut in two, as a result of a Santa Fe train carshtng into the wagon in which Miss Burnett and her brother, T. A. Burnett, were riding, just east of Portland yesterday. One of the woman's legs was broken in two places, her skull was fractured, and she was injured internally and bruised and lacerated on the body. When the wagon was struck Miss Burnett was hurled thirty-five feet into the air and landed in a heap alongside the track. Mr. Burnett was scratched and bruised. One of the horses was hurled thirty feet and the other was cut in twain."

In June 1908 Ruth M. Burnett, teaching at Finntown, Lake County, Colorado, went on a vacation home.

In 1910 Pasadena, California, Ruth is teaching, 40, brother George A. 48 a farm laborer, both single, lodging with Ida Bear of Illinois, 36.

Ruth is living alone, teaching, in both 1920 and 1930 Los Angeles.

In 1940 Los Angeles, Ruth is 70, living with sister Ida M. Byersee, 80.

Ruth, born May 20, 1869, died April 3, 1964 in Los Angeles County.

They might be in Fremont County because of a family there earlier.
April 7, 1898 "Died - At his home on Eighth-Mile Park, E. H. Burnett, age 53 years, 4 months, 11 days. Funeral services occurred Tuesday, April 5th."
E. H.'s son Henry was the administrator of his estate.

WILLIAM

William H. Burnett proved up a quarter in section 28, 8S 48W in 1895.

William H. Burnett and Stella Carson married on Nov 20, 1895 in Des Moines, Iowa. He's a lawyer in 1900 Delta, Colorado, born Feb 1864, with Stella May 1868, both born in Iowa. Mary E. Sept 1896 and Alice M. Aug 1898 were born in Colorado. Stella's mother Emma G. Carson was born Janaury 1849 in Illinois, married but no spouse.

" Applicant's storage of water in Delta City Reservoir No. 2 began not later than the spring of 1912, following its acquisition of the Red Rock Decree from Stella Burnett and William. H. Burnett by deed dated December 7, 1911, which deed included Burnett's subordination of their rights to store water in Burnett Reservoir to the rights of the Applicant to store water from Doughspoon Creek."

In 1930 Delta, superintendent of schools Alice M. Burnett is 31, Stella C. Burnett 61, Bertha S. Burnett 22, William C. Burnett 28, Alta J. Burnett 20, and Hazel M. Burnett 2.

November 1921 "Miss Myrtle Easton and Joe Bishop were quietly married Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Methodist parsonape in this city. Rev. John T. Ketchum of the Methodist church officiating The couple was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Phillips and Mrs. A. T. Lathrop. all of Olathe. Miss Easton has resided in Olathe for eighteen years, and counts everyone who knows her as a friend. She is a young lady of pleasing personality and manner. She graduated from the Olathe high school last June. Mr. Bishop came to Olathe from California about four years ago. His parents reside fn Arkansas. During his residence here, Mr. Bishop has made many friends thruout the whole country. He has a great deal of ability and is highly thot of by all who know him He served overseas during the World war. with the S9th division. Mr. and Mrs. Bishop have rented the P. C. Anderson house in Olathe, and will make their home there, where I Mr. Bishop is engaged in farming. Countless good wishes go to the popular young couple from all over the county."

William C. Burnett 1901-1993 is buried in Umatilla County, Oregon # 27893195.
"Bill, or Will as he was known by his siblings, grew up on in Delta, Colorado. He owned and operated Colorado-Arizona Motor Freight Co. for many years before moving to Utah and later on to Oregon. He was much loved by his grandchildren for whom he provided a home for 10 years. He had one daughter and three grandchildren. He married Alta in Colorado, Anna in Utah and finally Pearl in Oregon. He was once divorced and twice widowed. He is especially remembered for his sense of humor and generosity. He was a wonderful grandfather."

Mary Emma Burnett Duncan 1895-1944 is buried in Delta # 18380190, with Stee Dundan 1890-1974.

In 1920 Delta County, Alice is a teacher, 21, born in Colorado, living with another teacher, Ruth Scott, 20.

1923 "At Hotchkiss, Colorado, the principal address by Miss Alice Burnett, superintendent of Delta county schools."

January 1928 Delta, Colorado "Miss Alice Burnett, county superintendent of schools, spent several days here visiting the various rooms and putting on achievement tests. Wednesday evening she conducted a class of teachers in which the subject of reading was discussed. A large attendance greeted her. The Eckert teachers were present."

Alice Myra Burnett 1898-1953 is buried in Delta # 27969767, on a stone with Stella Bertha 1907-1998 and Ruth Hanna 1900-1959.

Lula married Will R. Halden 1874-1944 and is buried in Pocahontas County 18873-1919 # 53769041.

THEODORE

Louise F. Newans and T. Albert Burnett married in Greene County, Iowa on Feb 10, 1891.

In 1900 Fremont County, Colorado, Theodore Burnett is a barber, 32, L. F. Burnett 27, Pearl Burnett 8, Artie Burnett 7, Drexel Burnett 6, Clifton Burnett 4, Nathan Burnett 2, and a newborn son.
1901 "Thomas had secured a position in tho street cleaning department, and T. A. Burnett, money lender, loaned him money on warrant which he would get for his work. Weith was discharged after three days. This was three weeks ago. It is said that Burnett been collecting warrants for his (ith's) work ever since."

May 8 1902 Canon City Record
"T. A. Burnett of Florence, was brought before Judge Eldred last Tuesday..."

Elbert County, Colorado, October 1905 "T. A. Burnett was a business caller at the Banner office Wednesday forenoon. Mr. Burnett recently moved from Florence to A. W. Sparkman's place south of town, and we hope he may become a prosperous ranchman of this locality."


1906 Canon City " The criminal calendar is as follows: .... People vs. T. A. Burnett, receiving stolen goods;"

Theodore is farming in Pueblo County, Colorado in 1910, 42, with Louise F. 40, Pearl 18 born in Iowa, Lowell 7 and Iona 3 both born in Colorado.

March 1910 Pueblo "Arthur and Drexel Burnett were drowned in an irrigation ditch five miles east of Pueblo Wednesday while taking a swim. They were sons of T. A. Burnett, a ranchman, and were aged twelve and fourteen."
"The two young sons of Mr. and Mrs. T, A. Burnett of Orchard Grove are still missing. Arthur and Drexei Burnett were supposed to have been drowned in the river near their home, and the parents cling to that belief, but neighbors differ from them and insist that the lads ran away on account of their unpleasant home life."

In 1921 Theodore BUrnett sold a lot in Pueblo to Mindel Greenbaum.

November 1921 Pueblo "DIVORCE proceedings were heard Monday in the district court in the case of Theodore A. Burnett against Nettie Burnett."

Lou Newans married E. J. Sanders on Dec 2, 1922 in Polk County, Iowa.
She was 51, born in Tama County to Henry Newans and Caroline Carl.

Lou Frances Sanders, born July 13, 1872, dying Feb 13, 1955, is buried in Polk County, Iowa # 69479396.

Drexel Dave Burnett, 1893-1968 is buried in Lodi, California, # 127587834.

Artie, 44, born in Greene County, divorced, married Ginneth Flug on Jan 31, 1937 in Des Monies, Iowa.

Newell Burnett, 35, born at Florence, Colorado to Theodore Burnett and Louise Newland, married May Dorman on 8 Mar 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa.

He's buried in Polk County, Iowa 1900-1949 # 44456917.

Pearl Burnett, 23, married Henson Linning in Jasper County Iowa on Feb 24, 1914.
